Billy Beard is new senior pastor at Hopewell UMC in Tyrone

Members of Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone will welcome a new pastor to the pulpit Sunday, June 26. The Rev. Billy Beard formerly served as associate minister at First United Methodist Church in Dalton and will preach his first sermon at Hopewell this Sunday. The Methodist church routinely relocates ministers in an effort to give churches a more well-rounded experience. Hopewell’s current minister, The Rev. Scott Pickering, served the Tyrone church for the past six years and will now be serving County Line United Methodist Church in Acworth. Read More»

All Saints’ Anglican’s annual music camp set for July 11-15

All Saints Anglican Church in Peachtree City will conduct its annual free children’s Music Camp July 11-15. The featured theme, “Sing To The Lord A New Song,” will be evident in traditional hymns and praise songs, as well as scripture verses and messages.

Curriculum for the camp is a potpouri of music, singing, dancing, and instruction in various instruments, composition, and art. It also features contests, games and snacks. No previous experience is required. Read More»

William and Misty Wright of Sharpsburg announce the birth of their son, Sterlin Mattheu Wright, born at 3:59 p.m. on May 29, 2011, at Henry Medical Center in Stockbridge. He weighed 6 lbs. 4 oz. and was 19 3/4 inches long. Grandparents are Charlie and Sharron Meszaros of Ellenwood and Bill and Sandy Wright of Augusta. Sterlin Mattheu was welcomed home by his big brother, Jordan.

Garlock signing books at PTC library Sunday

Terry Garlock was a Cobra helicopter gunship pilot in the Vietnam War. In December, 1969 he was shot down in a firefight. Garlock was disabled: trapped in the wreckage with a broken back and paralyzed legs. The enemy was nearby. Two fellow pilots, John Synowsky and Graham Stevens, risked their lives by landing to help Terry and his fellow crewmember, Ron Hefner.

Among his awards are the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Distinguished Flying Cross. Read More»
