FFUMC will offer summer music camp for kids July 8-12

At Fayetteville First United Methodist Church’s Summer Music Camp this year children will learn about faith heroes through music. Rising kindergarten through rising sixth graders will have fun with friends as they grow spiritually and musically.

Camp will be held July 8-12, from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

Activities include drama, set design, instruments, choir and movement. Participants will end the week with a program.

Classes will be led by Joan Aycock and Delacey Wilkins.

Scholarships are available in exchange for volunteer hours. Sibling discounts of $25 per child apply. Read More»

Lou DeFranco, 73, of Peachtree City

Lou DeFranco, 73, of Peachtree City, passed away May 10, 2013. He was a retired engineer for Georgia-Pacific.

He is survived by his wife, Esther DeFranco of Peachtree City; daughter Cindy DeFranco of Chicago; brother, Joe DeFranco of Pennsylvania; nephew Ivan (Caroline) Merchan of Snellville; niece, Natalia Merchan (Edgar Penuela) of Madrid, Spain; grand-nieces, Sofia Merchan of Snellville and Valeria Penuela of Madrid, Spain; sisters-in-law, Martha Vega and Blanca-Lilia Vega of Madrid, Spain and Laly Knobloch of Munich, Germany. Alice Alldridge Thomson, age 95

Alice Alldridge Thomson was born on January 10, 1918 in Cleveland, Ohio. She died on May 9, 2013 at the age of 95 in Peachtree City, Ga.

Alice was a 5 year resident of Heritage of Peachtree where she had many friends on staff and with the residents. She had lived in Cleveland, Ohio for most of her life. Alice was married to Don Thomson in 1942.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, George and Maude Dille Alldridge; her sisters, Lois and Lillian and by her granddaughter-in-law, Beth Wortmann. Read More»

Fayette teams muscle into Final Four

When the dust had cleared after this weekend’s soccer action, Fayette found six of its boys and girls soccer teams in the final eight playing for a state title. Whitewater, McIntosh and Starr’s MIll advanced in the girls division, while McIntosh and Starr’s Mill moved on in the boys round.

To say that Whitewater’s Teegan Van Gunst had a dominant performance in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs would be an understatement. Read More»

Chaplain urges residents to contemplate the troops as holiday draws near

Armed Forces Mission has chosen the month of May as the inaugural month of Stand With Them ~ The Campaign to Restore Hope. At the conclusion of the month, with Memorial Day, we remember those who have fallen on the field of battle. Henry Ward Beecher wrote, “They hover as a cloud of witnesses above this Nation.” This coming Memorial Day while we are all firing up the grill and enjoying a three day weekend take time to honor the memory of those who have sacrificed ALL for the freedoms we enjoy today. Relay for Life is set for Friday

The annual Relay For Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society will take place at Fayette County High School Friday from 4-11:30 p.m.
The event was changed from its traditional overnight format in an effort to allow more families to participate, organizers said.

The theme of this year’s event is “Cruisin’ For A Cure” and it will take place at the FCHS track facility. Read More»

Three girls soccer teams headed to Final Four Tuesday night

Fayette County's dominance in girls soccer continued, as three teams moved on to the Final Four over the weekend. The Starr's Mill Lady Panthers shut out Riverwood 2-0, while the Whitewater Lady Wildcats dominated Allatoona 12-2. Starr's Mill travels to Whitewater Tuesday night at 5:30 for a semifinal matchup. The McIntosh Lady Chiefs blanked Northview 3-0, and will host Northgate Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. This is the Lady Chiefs fourth straight Final Four appearance and they will be playing for a chance to win their third straight state title.
