Effie Whaley, age 60 of Jonesboro

Effie "Lee" Whaley, age 60 of Jonesboro, died on Sept. 21, 2011. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Dannie.

She is survived by daughter, Lee Ann (Chris) Whaley, son, Rick Whaley and wife Tina, four grandchildren, Daniel, Chris, Justin and Robert, sisters Carrie Holmes (Ron) and Alice Lane of Las Vegas, nieces and nephews. We will miss you Lee (Mom).

Carolyn Baity Vines, 67, of Tyrone

Mrs. Carolyn Baity Vines of Tyrone, passed away Sept. 21, 2011. 

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Frank Lee Vines of Tyrone; daughters, Barbara Aldred and her husband Tommy of Tyrone; Jackie King and her husband Bill of Conyers; son, Jeff Vines and his wife Janet of Tyrone; sisters, Betty Noon of Griffin, Jean Crowe and her husband Lanny of Gay; brother, Larry Baity of Gay; grandchildren, Shandy King and his wife Carrie, Mandy Riggins and her husband Richard, Brandon Vines, Jessie Vines, Katie Vines; great grandchildren, Remington Riggins and Ramsey Riggins. Lera Perkins, 88, of Fayetteville

Mrs. Lera Perkins, 88, of Fayetteville, Ga., went to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 12, 2011. She fought a long battle with heart disease.

She was born Jan. 21, 1923 in Sabine County, Texas. She was the salutatorian of the 1940 class of Alto High School, and retired from Texas Industries in 1989. Lera was a member of FUMC, Beford, Texas.

She moved to Fayetteville in 2001. She was a member of Bridge Club groups of The Gathering Place. Lera was proudly a Certified Bridge Life Master. Read More»

Marilyn Dyar Mansch, 56, of Tyrone

On Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, Marilyn Dyar Mansch passed away at her residence in Tyrone, Ga., surrounded in love by family and friends.

Martha McWhorter, of Fayetteville

Mrs. Martha McWhorter, of Fayetteville, passed away on Sept. 19, 2011, at the age of 85. 

She was a 42-year employee of White Electric Company. Mrs. McWhorter was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby McWhorter, and daughter, Patty Sutton. 

She is survived by her nephews, William F. Evans of Fayetteville, Olin R. “Randy” Evans (Maria Mackas) of Decatur, Don S. Evans (Debbie) of McDonough, daughter-in-law, Betty McWhorter, and many grandchildren, grandnieces and grandnephews.  Read More»

Raymond C. Harris, 90, of Fayetteville, Ga., passed away peacefully on Sept. 14, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Thelma Brannon Harris, and his brother Walter Harris. Betty Joyce Buehl, age 75, of Riverdale

Mrs. Betty Joyce Buehl, of Riverdale, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at the age of 75.

Mrs. Buehl was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend to many. She was a very generous person who was willing to assist others in their times of need, whether it was sitting with those who were ill or preparing special dishes for them in her kitchen. Lester Ray Duncan, 80, of Newnan

Mr. Lester Ray Duncan, 80, of Newnan, Ga., passed away on Sept. 14, 2011.

Mr. Duncan is a former resident of Lakewood Christian Manor. He retired from Genuine Auto Parts, where he worked as a parts delivery man.

Carl Gilbert Threadgill, 91

Carl Gilbert Threadgill, (Retired Lieutenant Commander) age 91, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011. Another of the Great Generation has left us.

He was born in Bullochville, Ga., to the late George Washington Threadgill, Sr. and Jewell Still Threadgill. He was the son of a Meriwether County farmer. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1940 and served in World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars. Read More»
