Lera Perkins, 88, of Fayetteville

Mrs. Lera Perkins, 88, of Fayetteville, Ga., went to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 12, 2011. She fought a long battle with heart disease.

She was born Jan. 21, 1923 in Sabine County, Texas. She was the salutatorian of the 1940 class of Alto High School, and retired from Texas Industries in 1989. Lera was a member of FUMC, Beford, Texas.

She moved to Fayetteville in 2001. She was a member of Bridge Club groups of The Gathering Place. Lera was proudly a Certified Bridge Life Master. Read More»

Marilyn Dyar Mansch, 56, of Tyrone

On Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, Marilyn Dyar Mansch passed away at her residence in Tyrone, Ga., surrounded in love by family and friends.

Martha McWhorter, of Fayetteville

Mrs. Martha McWhorter, of Fayetteville, passed away on Sept. 19, 2011, at the age of 85. 

She was a 42-year employee of White Electric Company. Mrs. McWhorter was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby McWhorter, and daughter, Patty Sutton. 

She is survived by her nephews, William F. Evans of Fayetteville, Olin R. “Randy” Evans (Maria Mackas) of Decatur, Don S. Evans (Debbie) of McDonough, daughter-in-law, Betty McWhorter, and many grandchildren, grandnieces and grandnephews.  Read More»

Raymond C. Harris, 90, of Fayetteville, Ga., passed away peacefully on Sept. 14, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Thelma Brannon Harris, and his brother Walter Harris. Betty Joyce Buehl, age 75, of Riverdale

Mrs. Betty Joyce Buehl, of Riverdale, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at the age of 75.

Mrs. Buehl was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend to many. She was a very generous person who was willing to assist others in their times of need, whether it was sitting with those who were ill or preparing special dishes for them in her kitchen. Lester Ray Duncan, 80, of Newnan

Mr. Lester Ray Duncan, 80, of Newnan, Ga., passed away on Sept. 14, 2011.

Mr. Duncan is a former resident of Lakewood Christian Manor. He retired from Genuine Auto Parts, where he worked as a parts delivery man.

Carl Gilbert Threadgill, 91

Carl Gilbert Threadgill, (Retired Lieutenant Commander) age 91, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011. Another of the Great Generation has left us.

He was born in Bullochville, Ga., to the late George Washington Threadgill, Sr. and Jewell Still Threadgill. He was the son of a Meriwether County farmer. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1940 and served in World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars. Read More»

North Augusta, S.C. — Graveside Services for Mrs. Hettie Putt Lawson, 88, of North Augusta, S.C., who entered into rest Sept. 1, 2011, was conducted Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at 10 a.m. in Westover Memorial Park. Chaplain Dexter Lambert officiating.

Mrs. Lawson was a native of Baldwyn, Miss., a former resident of Peachtree City, Ga., having made North Augusta, S.C. her recent home. Norman Cale, 78, of Sharpsburg

Norman Cale, 78, of Sharpsburg, Ga., passed away on Sept. 14, 2011. Norman was a graduate of the University of Alabama and served in the United States Marine Corps. An Eastern Airline captain and avid golfer, Norman had a great life and was well-loved by all who met him. He is preceded in death by his son Kent Cale.
