James Alvin Varney, 75, of Peachtree City

James "Jim" Alvin Varney, 75, of Peachtree City died peacefully in his sleep on May 16, 2014.

Jim was born to the late Carl and Annabelle Varney in Detroit, Mich. on January 24, 1939. After attending the University of Detroit for two years, he served in the US Navy for six years, including time on a nuclear submarine. Jim married Barbara Brassard Varney in 1967.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years and children: Linda Ellis of Peachtree City; David Varney of Newnan; Laura Truelove of Buford; and Michael Varney of Peachtree City. He is also survived by six grandchildren. Read More»

Clinton W. Shaw, Jr., 93, of Newnan, Ga., passed away May 19, 2014.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Shaw belonged to the Atlanta Bagpipe Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian Greene Shaw; son Kevin Clinton Shaw and parents Laura Ellen and Clinton Shaw, Sr.

Mary Hill Fisher, 84, of Fayetteville, passed away May 14, 2014.

She was an employee of Bank of America from 1954 thru 2000. She was a member of the Fayette S.O.F.A. (Society of Fine Arts) and retired as treasurer. She was a graduate of O'Keefe High School in Atlanta and was a graduate of the class of 1948. She was a well-established oil, pastel and watercolor artist and published illustrator.

Joy Faye Schultz, 81, of Fayetteville, passed away May 6, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her son James “Jimmy” Walter Schultz and son-in-law Phil Rhoads. She is survived by her husband Larry Schultz of Fayetteville; daughter Peggy Rhoads of Fayetteville; son L.E. “Buddy” Schultz, Jr. of Fayetteville; 4 grandchildren; and sister Lola (Bob) Hecterbran of Dallas, Texas.

The family received friends Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 6 p.m. at Harps Crossing Baptist Church, Fayetteville.  A private burial took place Friday.

B.D. Luke, MD, 92, of Fayetteville, passed away at home May 6, 2014 after a lengthy illness. 

He was a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia and interned at University Hospital, Augusta. Dr. Luke established the first medical practice in Morrow, Ga. and was a charter staff member at South Fulton Hospital. Additionally, he served as the staff physician at Clayton State College.
