Mona Lucille Stewart, formerly of Fayette County

The life of Mona Stewart Lawson was remembered on February 6, 2011 with a gathering of friends and family at her son’s home in the Bent Tree community in Jasper, GA.

It is appropriate that Mona’s life was celebrated with a party rather than memorialized with a funeral, since Mona was a consummate hostess, known for being able to easily host both large, elegant Christmas parties and spontaneous fish-fries. Mr. Billy Derel Nation, Sr., 74, of Riverdale, passed away on February 8, 2011.

Mr. Nation was a member of the Early Ford V8 Club of Fayetteville and Vintage Chevrolet Club of America in Warner Robins. He retired after 42 years with Turner Broadcasting.

Mr. Leonard Woodrow Shaw, 92, of Fayetteville

Mr. Leonard Woodrow Shaw, 92, passed away on Feb. 4, 2011.

After 30 years of service, Mr. Shaw retired as the manager of the retail department at Isaly’s Dairy in Youngstown. He later retired from McArthur’s Dairy in Miami.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Emerson Shaw and Bertha Marie Dietzel Shaw and his sister, Dorothy Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Della L. Shaw; son, Leonard Shaw Jr. of Westminster, S.C.; daughter, Diana Lynn Balas and her husband, Robert of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Read More»

Mr. William “Micky” Liles, Jr., 41, of Hampton and formerly of Fayetteville, died February 5, 2011.

He is survived by his children Christopher Vaughn Liles and Whitney Liles; their mother Karen Liles; parents Bill & Lynn Liles, Sr.; sister Mindy & David Oliver and sister Lisa Place; grandmother Virginia Gerken; nieces Desirae and Ronda.

A private graveside service for the family will be held Tuesday morning. The family will gather Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 to 2:00 PM to celebrate Micky’s life at the funeral home.

Mrs. Theresa Attina Lancaster, of Fayetteville, passed away on February 4, 2011 at the age of 57 following a valiant battle with cancer.

Theresa was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She also loved animals, and at times had raised horses, rabbits and birds. Mr. Tully Miller, 77, of Peachtree City

Mr. Tully Miller, of Peachtree City, passed away on February 3, 2011 at the age of 77.

It was said that he never met a stranger and was always able to make people laugh. Tully was very talented man who loved ballroom dancing, tennis and playing golf. He flew for the Royal Air Force for 4 years. Tully later worked his way up through the ranks of the United States Internal Revenue Service, retiring as an executive with 32 years of service. Edgar "Buck" Johnson, 91, of Peachtree City

Edgar "Buck" Johnson, 91, of Peachtree City, passed away on January 25, 2011.

He was predeceased in death by his wife, Vivian Johnson. Buck was born in Burkburnett, Texas to the late Mr. Murray Noel Johnson and Mrs. Eunice Melissa Patton Johnson and had been a resident of Peachtree City since 2005.

Buck was a veteran of the United State Marine Corps, serving as a member of the Machine Gun Crew 604 in World War II receiving an honorable discharge in January 1946. Upon leaving the Marines, Buck worked for various companies in the Texas oil industry. Read More»
