Mrs. Betty Jo Barnett, 80, of Fayetteville

Mrs. Betty Jo Barnett, 80, of Fayetteville, passed away on May 11, 2011.

Mrs. Barnett retired from Clayton County Board of Education after 30 years of dedicated service. She was a former council member for the city of Jonesboro and long-time member of Jonesboro First Baptist.

She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Barnett and her brother Ralph Stephens.

She is survived by her son Doug Barnett and his wife Peggy of Sharpsburg; grandchildren Zachary and Carson; brother Hubert Stephens of Marietta; several nieces and nephews. Read More»

His biggest contribution in life was his love for his family and he was a devoted family man.

Walter Lonnie Ivie, 80, of Brooks, passed away May 10, 2011.

He was the son of the late Walter Burrell and Nellie Ergle Ivie of Hapeville, Georgia. After serving in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict, he was employed with Delta Airlines for 31 years. Aberham “Sam” Campbell, age 85, of Jonesboro, died May 6, 2011.

Sam loved his family and friends and enjoyed nothing more than raking leaves in the fall.

Phyllis Hutchison Withrow, age 83, of Fayetteville passed away on May 9, 2011 following a long illness with stomach cancer. Phyllis was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. Alma Jones Hunter, 103, formerly of Fayetteville and Hapeville, passed away May 7, 2011 at Laurel Park Nursing Home in Stockbridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Hunter, and brothers James Jones (a former sheriff of Fayette County) and Gerald Jones.

Connie J. Walton, 90, of Fayetteville, passed away May 6, 2011.

Mrs. Walton was a member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, the East Point Women’s Club, and the Mary Martha circle at FFUMC. Mrs. Walton was also retired from the Fulton County Board of Education.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, James D. Ronald Michael “Mickey” Odom, 69, of Fayetteville

Ronald Michael “Mickey” Odom, 69, of Fayetteville, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2011.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Charles and Doris Catherine Chandler Odom and a brother, Tommie Lee Odom.

Mickey took pride in holding the oldest business license in Peachtree City for his barbershop, which his son operates. He was retired due to health, but very much enjoyed the time with family, especially, his grandsons. He served the United States Army Reserve as a Staff Sergeant. Mr. Thomas Howard Elliott, Sr., 55, of Fayetteville

Mr. Thomas Howard Elliott, Sr., 55, of Fayetteville, passed away on May 4, 2011 due to complications of ALS (aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

Mr. Elliott was a loving father, devoted husband, dependable friend and a warrior in the fight against ALS. He retired after working 34 years with Delta Air Lines. He was an avid Studebaker aficionado and member of the North GA and National Studebaker Drivers Clubs and the Avanti Owners Association.
