Mr. Walter Allie Ponder, Sr., 92, of Fayetteville

Mr. Walter Allie Ponder, Sr., 92, of Fayetteville, formerly of East Point, died on July 8, 2011.

Mr. Ponder proudly served East Point for 25 years, from 1963 – 1988. He served as City Councilman for 20 years and as Mayor for 8 years. Ernest Clain Bannister, 89, of Fayetteville, died July 8, 2011.

He was born August 10, 1921 in Pickens County, Georgia, the fifth son of the late Rufus and Ida Bannister.

He was preceded in death by first wife Rosalene Fletcher Bannister; parents; four brothers, Broughton, Alman, Linc and Rex Bannister.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joyce Tate Bannister; brother-in-law Bill Tate of Sharpsburg, GA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Janice and Joe Lynch of Fayetteville; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Read More»

Howard Legg, 82, of Fayetteville, passed away on July 5, 2011.

He served his country as a member of the US Air Force. He was a 50-year member of Plumbers-Steamfitters Local #72.

Catherine Wallace Bartlett, age 91, of Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2011 in Moultrie, GA.

She was a long-time resident of Fayette County, where she was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church, and was director of WMU and leader for Acteens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren H. Bartlett.

Major General Theodore (Ted) Franklin Mallory III, 68, died at his home on Sunday, June 26, 2011 following a courageous battle with cancer.

John C. “Mack” Bray, 88, of Fayetteville

John C. “Mack” Bray, age 88, was born in Fayette County on May 29, 1923, the fifth of eight brothers, to Ruby Brown Bray and Burgess Bray.

He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving as a carpenter general in England, France and Germany from January 1943 to December 1945. He continued to work as a carpenter and later as a Fayette County Building Inspector from 1978 until retirement in 1992. Mr. David Lee Crabtree, 56, of Brooks

Mr. David Lee Crabtree, 56, of Brooks, passed away on June 24, 2011 following a short illness.

He was a carpenter and was self-employed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Lester Crabtree and Amy Vera Galloway Crabtree, and brothers Roy Crabtree and Lester Crabtree.

He is survived by one son, Trace Donaldson; his sister Sherry Osburn and her husband James of Brooks; sister-in-law Margaret Crabtree of Senoia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Crabtree was cremated and a memorial service will be planned at a later date. Read More»
