Newnan Catholic church members will honor their patron saint July 21

Members of Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Newnan are preparing to honor their patron saint. Although the official date is Thursday, July 22, the parish is planning a vigil Mass at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21. The special liturgy will focus on the saint’s life and her faithful dedication and following of Jesus Christ.

Saint Mary Magdalene stood at the foot of the cross on which Jesus was crucified, accompanied by his mother Mary. She was the first disciple to find that he had risen from the dead as he promised and she proclaimed his Resurrection to the other apostles. Read More»

Trip to DeKalb Farmer’s Market planned July 27

Fayetteville First United Methodist Church will partner with Fayette Senior Services for a trip to the DeKalb Farmer’s Market July 27. The group will leave the church at 10 a.m. and return about 3:30 p. m.

The cost of the trip is $7, with lunch cost additional, paid by the individual. The church will provide coolers and markers for those who want to make purchases at the market.

At least 15 registered participants are required to make the trip. Register at the church by July 20. Individuals must be paid to be considered registered. For more information, call the church, 770-461-4313.

Failure can be a good teacher

It’s exciting to see the Atlanta Braves having a better year. Even Chipper Jones is finally coming around. At the end of June, Chipper was batting .254 with five home runs and 32 RBI. Way off his best years’ production, but after a slow start, his offense appears to be picking up.

Think about what a .254 average means. He gets a hit only one out of every four times he comes to the plate. Or, he fails to get a hit three out of every four times he comes to the plate. Yet, he still gets what? Something like $14 million this season? Read More»

Flat Creek Baptist’s Fine Arts Academy opens registration for the coming year

Flat Creek Baptist Church has opened registration for its 2010-2011 session of the Fine Arts Academy, offering instruction in music and art for children, youth and adults. Sessions will be held based on the desire of students and the availability of teachers. All Saints free music camp starts next week

Registration is still open for All Saints Anglican Church’s free Children’s Music Camp set to start next Monday. The theme is “A Week of Praise” with a focus on a variety of music, especially traditional hymns and praise songs. The camp will run through Friday.

Fayette Family Church to host rally

A Better Way Ministries of Peachtree City will conduct a Rally at the Fayette Family Church Sunday, July 11, at 6:30 p.m.

Better Way is a place of refuge for men ages 17 - 55 with drug and alcohol addictions and other life controlling issues.

The evening will include a message from ministry founder John Barrow.

Eddie Thomas will celebrate 13 years at Edgefield

The congregation of Edgefield Baptist Church will celebrate the 13th Year Pastoral Anniversary of Senior Pastor Eddie Thomas on Sunday, July 18.

The Summit offers Camp Re-Mix for special kids

The Factor Grandparent Raising Grandchildren (GRG) committee at The Summit Church has brought key stakeholders together to provide a grief camp for children being raised in grandparent/relative care homes.

Camp Re-Mix, offered July 16-18, is a three-day, two-night weekend camp for children 7-14 years of age who are living in relative care placement.
