What I love about the Peachtree Road Race

It’s been exactly one month since 960 other Fayette residents and I ran the 41st annual Peachtree Road Race, a major part of celebrating the Fourth of July in Atlanta. Since the race fell on Sunday, the challenge was not only running the race, but also timing everything to get back to church by the 10:55 morning worship start. I made it by 10:15.

Running is good stress relief, and I find it a good outlet for a pastor. I’m getting exercise, staying fit, burning calories and praying all at once. In addition, I enter a 5K or 10K every now and then for the thrill of competition. Read More»

Mt. Olive revival starts Aug. 4

Mount Olive Baptist Church will hold its revival Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 4-6, at 7 p.m. each night.

The guest preacher for Wednesday is Pastor Carlton Huff from Immanuel Baptist Church in Riverdale; for Thursday, the Rev. Otis White from Shiloh Jonesboro; and for Friday, Pastor Keith Staley from Chosen Generation Church in East Point.

Heritage’s WinShape Camp opens doors to 454 children

Jewish elder to speak at Vineyard

Vineyard Community Church in Senoia will host “Ps, Qs and Jews” with special guest speaker Ryan Lambert.

Lambert is a Jewish believer in Jesus and is the chief planter, initial elder and congregational leader of Congregation Beth Messiah (www.bethmessiahatlanta.com).

The mini-conference will be held Aug. 14 starting at 5 p.m. and will continue at the Sunday gathering on Aug. 15 at 10:30 a.m.

Fayetteville First Baptist Church will offer a new session of GriefShare, a free, 13-week Bible-based program for those who have lost a loved one, starting Tuesday, Aug. 10,

FPU classes start this month

Fayetteville First United Methodist Church (FFUMC) will offer multiple courses in Financial Peace University (13-week course) starting this month.

The course benefits couples/individuals of all ages — those with or without debt.

All classes will be taught at the church in downtown Fayetteville.

Summer Music Camp draws 100 ‘campers’

All Saints Anglican Church in Peachtree City wrapped up its third annual Summer Music Camp 16 July as 100 children received certificates of completion from the the Rev. Michael Fry, rector.

Parents and staff enjoyed an end-of-camp musical finale by the participants, ages 5-12. Music director Shannon Bryan led the children in songs they had learned including: “Praise To The Lord, The Almighty,” and “All Creatures Of Our God and King.” Several children recited Bible verses and others accompanied songs with “praise-dancing.“ Read More»

Clearance sale is Saturday

The Second Chance Thrift Shop, an outreach of Brooks United Methodist Church, will have a giant clearance sale on Saturday, July 31, from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the gym at Brooks UMC.

There will be a hamburger and hotdog lunch available (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.) for a donation, and a bake sale with homemade goodies.
