St. Gabriel KoC to sponsor free throw competition

All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level competition for the 2013 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship sponsored by Fayetteville Council 11458 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church.

The local competition will be held Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. at Hood Avenue Primary School, 490 Hood Ave., Fayetteville,.

The championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. All boys and girls 10 to 14 years old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. Read More»

COS invites middle schoolers to Blast Night
Middle schoolers are invited to “Blast Night” at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church on Jan. 19 from 6 p.m.-midnight at the church. Word of Life FMC offers diabetes course

Word of Life Free Methodist Church invites the community to learn about how to manage diabetes through a four week course called 40 Days to Better Living. The first class starts Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. at 405 Fayette Place, behind the Dairy Queen in the same complex as La Hacienda.

The class will teach attendees how to eat better, exercise, work with their doctor, and connect with God. A seven step model for healthy living will introduce them to ways to improve their life day by day. The classes are free. Read More»

First Asian-American cantor/rabbi visits Cong. B’nai Israel

Members of Congregation B’nai Israel in Fayetteville were treated to a musical service last month by visiting senior cantor Angela Warnick Buchdahl of Central Synagogue, New York.

Named one of the 50 most influential rabbis in America by Newsweek Magazine, Buchdahl, a graduate of Yale, was invested as a cantor in 1999 and ordained as a rabbi in 2001.

Buchdahl was born to a Korean Buddhist mother and Jewish American father. She is the first Asian-American to be ordained as a rabbi or cantor in North America. Read More»

Fayetteville First United Methodist Church offers Body Recall classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings in the fellowship hall at 10:30 a.m. and on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 4 p.m. Classes meet in 10-week sessions. Providence UMC will offer several classes for the new year

Providence United Methodist Church will offer many new classes for 2013.

Classes offered on Wednesday evenings include:

Winning at Work and Home, a 16-week study for men, focuses on the areas central to a man’s life: career and family. It explores how a man can enjoy and engage his work and how he can relate to a woman in a whole new way.

The class is led by Tom Nolan at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Financial Peace: Providence UMC will offer Dave Ramsey’s “Financial Peace” beginning Jan. 16. The class will meet on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. for nine weeks. Read More»

PTCUMC will offer GriefShare, DivorceCare starting this week

The new session of DivorceCare at Peachtree City United Methodist Church will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 9. The meeting time is from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. weekly on Wednesday evenings at the church, 225 Robinson Rd. in Peachtree City.

DivorceCare is a weekly seminar and support group for people who are separated or divorced. It’s a place to be around people who understand and a place to obtain valuable information about ways to heal from the hurt of divorce.
