Newberry College Jazz Big Band to perform at Christ Our Shepherd

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City will host the Newberry College Jazz Big Band in a concert on Monday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.

The college, in Newberry, S.C., was founded in 1856 by the Lutheran Church.

The audience received the band enthusiastically when they played in Peachtree City some years ago, and director Bill Long says, “This is my best band yet.”

The band plays jazz classics and more contemporary music. Admission is free.

The church is on the corner of Highway 54 and Peachtree Parkway

Heritage Christian will host Girls’ Conference Feb. 4 & 5

Heritage Christian Church in Fayetteville will host “More Beautiful You,” a conference targeted toward middle and high school girls Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4 and 5 at the church. Squire Parsons will perform at New Lebanon in Newnan

New Lebanon Baptist Church will host Squire Parsons Live in Concert on Saturday, Feb 5, at 7 p.m.The concert is free. A love offering will be received.

A native of West Virginia, Parsons became the baritone singer for the Kingsmen Quartet in 1975 and in 1979 went into solo ministry.

In 2008, he was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Association’s, “Hall Of Fame,” in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Read More»

Holy Trinity plans retreat February 7-9

Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City will host a parish retreat/mission Feb. 7-9 at 6:30 p.m. each evening.

Leading the event will be Fr. James Friedel, an Augustinian from the Archdiocese of Chicago.

“This event is designed to allow us to turn off our engines, slow down and reflect upon some of the things in our lives which our day-to-day activities just do not allow,” a spokesperson said.

Friedel will also conduct a mini-series for seniors at 9 a.m. which will be open to others who prefer a morning session. Read More»

Boy Scout applications sought

Boy Scout Troop 175, sponsored by Peachtree City United Methodist Church, is accepting applications for new scouts for 2011.

Troop 175 is a large, active troop with a 12 month program of weekly meetings and monthly outings.

Boys can experience the outdoors while learning how to be a better citizen and a good leader.

Meetings are on Monday nights at 7:30 p.m. at the Scout Lodge, a realized vision of Troop 175’s adult leadership.

Tripp will lead seminar at Heritage Church Fri., Sat.

Heritage Church in Fayetteville (150 Lester Rd.) is having a free parenting seminar Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28-29. The speaker will be Dr. Tedd Tripp, one of the leading experts and authors on the topic of parenting.
