Join Nat’l Hgts. for trip to Austria, Oberammergau

The community is invited to join National Heights Baptist Church members on a trip to Austria and the Oberammergau Passion Play, leaving Atlanta on August 26.

The original Passion Play began in 1634 when villagers of Oberammergau vowed to perform a play depicting the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, if God would spare its residents from the bubonic plague.

Give Mom a lobster dinner for Mother’s Day

For people looking for a different present for Mother’s Day this year, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newnan is offering a novel opportunity -— a full, lobster dinner.

Members of the church are taking orders for complete dinners to take home on the day before Mother’s special day. The only thing left to supply is the candlelight.

Since all of the lobsters will be flown in live from Maine, they will have to be ordered by May 1.

I’ve always said that someday I’m going to design a church to fit the natural instincts of most people. The main element will be pews on a conveyor belt. When people walk into the church, there will be only one pew available — in the back, of course — just where everybody wants to sit! Then, when the back pew fills up, the whole pew would move to the front on a conveyor belt, and a new empty pew would pop up in the back for the next group of people and so on. Read More»

Lenten lunches conclude Thursday

The last in the series of Lenten lunches will be held tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. The church annually hosts Lenten lunches weekly during Lent and offers a light lunch and a brief lesson provided by church members or other guest speakers.

Thursday’s lunch will be hosted by the Ethel Taylor Circle and Ed Steil will be the speaker.

New LLMs installed at CTK

Several licensed liturgical ministers, also known as lay eucharistic ministers, were installed at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Sharpsburg. The ministers received training by Father Dan Hale, Peachtree City, canon liturgist in the Mid-South Diocese, and will operate locally under the direction of Deacon James Gardner, Tyrone. The new LLMs will take Holy Communion to the sick and shut-in, will assist as chalice bearers, and will serve in other duties as assigned.The installation was conducted by David Epps, bishop of the Diocese. Heritage Christian Church opens registration for Winshape day camp

Registration is now open for Winshape C3 Camp, which will be hosted by Heritage Christian Church, July 12-16. The day camp is open to all students who have completed first through sixth grade. Camp runs from 7:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. Cost is $179 for a full week of camp. A deposit of $50 is due upon registration.
