New men’s ministry starting up in Fayette

A new men’s ministry initiative for Atlanta’s southern crescent is underway, currently being led by the Rev. Tom Rowe (ret.)

There has been one planning meeting so far. The next planning meeting is this Saturday, Nov. 12 at 8 a.m. at The Center, 640 Ebenezer Church Rd., Fayetteville. Pastors, men’s ministry leaders, and other interested men are strongly encouraged to become part of shaping and carrying forth this effort.

Gospel of John study starts tonight

A Bible study exploring the Gospel of John will begin Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg.

The study will involve a chapter-by-chapter (and sometimes a verse-by-verse) approach to the book. The study will be held in the fellowship hall and begins at 7:30 p.m. each week. Read More»

Fayetteville First Baptist will host special holiday GriefShare session

Fayetteville First Baptist Church will host a free seminar,”Surviving The Holidays,” from GriefShare on Nov. 15. The session lasts about two hours and is for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one.

“The holidays can be an especially difficult time after the death of a loved one,” a spokesperson said. “This seminar will help you with the emotions and with people during the holiday season. Everyone who attends will receive a free book with 30 days of devotions to help you cope with the holiday season.” Read More»

Interfaith Thanksgiving Service is Nov. 16 at Nativity Episcopal

Representatives of the Jewish, Christian and Islamic faiths in Fayette County will participate Wednesday, Nov. 16, in an interfaith Thanksgiving service sponsored by Fayette Interfaith Network.

The service will begin at 7 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, 130 Antioch Road, just off Ga. Highwaye 92 south of downtown Fayetteville.

A special focus of the service will be the honoring of the late Susan Levine, who died Aug. 10. Levine, for many years, was cantorial soloist at Congregation B’nai Israel and was an active member of Fayette Interfaith Network. Read More»

Providence UMC hosts Clower book signing, January classes

Ron Clower, author of “Jesus Christ: Centerpiece of God’s Universe” will sign copies of his book on Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the café at Providence United Methodist Church.

New Hope, Jonesboro FBC will take Operation Christmas Child donations

While many Fayetteville families are busy with holiday activities, a group of local volunteers is focused on filling empty shoe boxes with school supplies, toys, hygiene items and notes of encouragement for needy kids overseas.

Fayetteville families are participating in the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind — Operation Christmas Child — an effort that has hand-delivered 86 million gifts to kids worldwide since 1993. Read More»

First Youth Service held at CTK

Last month, Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg experienced its first youth-led service in the church’s 15-year history. The preacher of the day was Rhianna Benson, a 14-year-old home schooled freshman.

Several months prior, a number of youth approached Christ the King, with the idea and he readily approved.

“When I was about 17,” Epps said, “I was the Youth Day preacher at Mountain View United Methodist Church in Kingsport, Tenn. It was my first sermon and, although it was awful, it was where I got my start.” Read More»

Midwest Food Bank opens doors, make first deliveries

Volunteers help load up donations for nine area food banks in the first ever distribution of the Georgia division of Midwest Food Bank, located in Peachtree City. Photo/Special.

On Oct. 25, the Georgia Division of Midwest Food Bank, located in Peachtree City, distributed a total of 518 cases of food to nine area agencies. These agencies represent four different counties and serve over 6,000 people monthly.

As Ken King, Midwest Food Bank’s local director of operations, said, “It is such a blessing to offer hope to the hungry and less fortunate”.

A number of energetic volunteers from several local churches gathered on Tuesday morning for general instructions and to offer a prayer for the agencies that were scheduled to receive food. Read More»
