Dogwood Church creates orchard for the community

Seeing the need of providing hungry families in Fayette County with fresh fruit, Jeff Meyers from Dogwood Church recently presented a vision that would see to this need through the Real Life Center.

The vision cast was huge and it included creating an orchard that would produce 20,000 pounds of fresh fruit — including apples, peaches, plums, blueberries, blackberries, figs, pomegranates, and grapes — a year and helping 100 or more hurting families each week. Read More»

McDonough Road Baptist will present Christmas drama Dec. 4

The Celebration Choir and Orchestra of McDonough Road Baptist Church in Fayetteville will present “The Best Christmas Ever” Sunday, Dec.4, at 10:55 a.m. and 6 p.m.

“The Best Christmas Ever” shares the experience of the fictional Pyne family that recently moved to Fayetteville just in time for the neighborhood Christmas gathering. As they meet their neighbors and discover new friendships, they also discover the meaning of Christmas, according to Mark Karki, minister of music and worship. Read More»

COS to present children’s musical

“Operation Christmas Child,” this year’s children’s musical at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, is scheduled for Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Actors and singers are in grades 1-5, with the preschool Cherub Choir also participating.

Actors in leading roles include: Addie Ellison, Emily McDonald, Michael King, Davis Cover, Kieran Marland, Carson Robichaux, Trace Alford, Joshua Hiatt, and Ashleigh Shriner. Soloists will be Emily McDowell, Natalie Irvin and Victoria Taylor. Read More»

FFUMC: No Christmas Tour of Homes this year; concert, dinner, and auction planned instead

In place of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church’s (FFUMC) 2011 Tour of Homes, members will host a silent auction and dinner before the Candlelight Concert on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. This year marks the 12th performance of the Candlelight Concert featuring violinist Sonja Squires and pianist Rick Massengale.

Along with all of the great instrumentalists, the concert will feature vocalists Kristy Cline and Dr. Franklin Green. Read More»

Ron Clower class now in progress; will be offered again in January

Ron Clower, author of “Jesus Christ: Centerpiece of God’s Universe,” wrote his book after years of leading studies on that book of the Bible.

Fayetteville First Baptist Church holds first Veterans Day program

The Fayetteville First Baptist Church held its first Veterans Day Program with nearly 500 attending and nearly 100 church members participating in the program.

The Rev. Glenn Stringham emceed the “Salute To Veterans” event, himself a service veteran of 22 years. He is also the minister to senior adults at the church.

Music was presented by the Southenaires Big Band, who contributed its time for the evenings enjoyment. Appropriate music and recognition of each military branch of service was given, and veterans from each branch stood when appropriate. Read More»

Interfaith Thanksgiving Service is tonight at Nativity Episcopal

Representatives of the Jewish, Christian and Islamic faiths in Fayette County will participate Wednesday, Nov. 16, in an interfaith Thanksgiving service sponsored by Fayette Interfaith Network. The service will begin at 7 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, located at 130 Antioch Road, just off Georgia Route 92 south of downtown Fayetteville.

A special focus of the service will be the honoring of the late Susan Levine. Mrs. Levine, who died Aug. 10, for many years was cantorial soloist at Congregation B’nai Israel and was an active member of Fayette Interfaith Network. Read More»

The women of Holly Grove AME Church will host their annual Women’s Day Celebration Service on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 10:30 a.m. and at 2 p.m. During the morning service, three women of various ages from the community will share messages on “Women of Strength” based on the women of the Bible.
