Bethany UMC to celebrate 155 years

Bethany United Methodist Church, one of the oldest churches in Fayette County, will celebrate 155 years of service to the community with a Homecoming celebration on Sept. 18. Morning worship will be at 10:55 a.m. with lunch following. The Rev. Bruce Handy will deliver the sermon.

Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church will host a special commemorative service [NOTE CORRECTED DATE] Saturday evening in remembrance of events of Sept. 11, 2001. The service will begin at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, with doors open at 6:30.

Special guest speaker will be Rear Adm. Deborah Loewer who was director of the White House situation room on Sept. 11, 2001. Loewer will present a glimpse of what actually occurred as she accompanied former President George W. Bush throughout that tragic day and the days that followed. Read More»

Sharpsburg’s Cathedral of Christ the King will observe 15th anniversary this Sunday

Christ the King Church will celebrate its 15th anniversary as a church on Sunday, Sept. 11. Two services will be held, one at 8:30 a.m. and the other at 10 a.m.

Started as a prayer group with 19 people in a residence in Sharpsburg, the church held its first Sunday morning service at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City on the second Sunday of September 1996. Read More»

COS plans special music for 9/11

During worship on Sept. 11, the Sanctuary Choir at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City will sing “A Prayer for Our Time,” which was written “in response to the tragic events of Sept.11, 2001,” according to composer Joseph Martin. Handbells with flutist Sara Kahley and readers Ashleigh Shriner and Morgan Wiese will present “Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace,” a setting of the familiar Prayer of St. Francis. Read More»

Concert at The Fred Sunday will remember 9/11

Pastor Doug Fultz, senior minister at Heritage Christian Church in Fayetteville, will lead a memorial prayer moment during this weekend’s 9/11 Memorial Concert at the Fredrick Brown Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City.

The concert, scheduled for this Sunday evening at 7 p.m., will feature members of the Fayette Pops symphony orchestra, led by Maestro Ken White, and the Fayette County Mass High School Choir. The concert is free of charge.

The concert will also feature local musicians Jason Bowen, Ed and Patty Richardson, Dana Smith, and the Pops Men’s Quartet. Read More»

Prince of Peace plans service for home-schools

Home-school families are invited to a Community Chapel Service and Fellowship to be offered at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on Hwy. 314 in Fayetteville.

On Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m., Pastor Justin Kollmeyer will offer a community non-denominational daytime Children’s Chapel Service for students and parents of home-schooling families. Annual Chicken-Que set for Sept. 17

On Saturday, Sept. 17 the fire-pits will light up at 4 a.m. for the seventh annual Chicken-Que at Peachtree City United Methodist Church. The United Methodist Men are joining together again for the seventh year with the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City for their annual Chicken-Que fundraiser. Proceeds from the event go to the Scout Lodge at PTCUMC supported by UMM, and many deserving organizations supported by the Kiwanis Club. Read More»

Backpack Buddies begin second year helping kids

The Backpack Buddies at Vineyard Community Church are at it again this year. Now in their second year, the church group has added the income-eligible students at a third Coweta County elementary school to be recipients of free weekend breakfasts and lunches.

Backpack Buddies coordinator April Anderson said the effort that began last year has grown to the extent that in-need students from a third elementary school have been added to the effort, adding that the group is trying to amass enough support to include a fourth school this year. Read More»
