Ackerson joins staff of COS

Kerry Ackerson has joined the staff at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church as director of Equipping Ministries.

After a career in marketing, she served as director of ministry at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marietta from 2005-2014.

At Christ Our Shepherd her responsibilities will include equipping volunteers for ministry, incorporating new members into congregational life, and supporting small group ministry.

She and her husband Peter live “in the country” with their cows, dogs, cats, and chickens.

Bethany’s homecoming is Sept. 21

Bethany United Methodist Church will celebrate its Homecoming Sunday, Sept. 21, with a service at 10:45 a.m. and a covered dish dinner at noon. Pastor Cole Altizer will preach the sermon.

Bethany, one of the older churches in Fayette County, was established about 1856 in the old Fife Community in north Fayette County. The present building was dedicated May 20, 1900. Many early settlers rest in the cemetery across the street from the church, presently on Rivers Road in north Fayette County.. Read More»

COS seniors plan ‘rah rah’ evening
Senior Go-Getters at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City will host a “Rah Rah Evening” on Sept. 12. All are encouraged to wear school colors, wave collegiate banners, and compete for bragging rights. Chef Matt Preble will provide dinner of “comfort food” at a cost of $10. Registration now open for Providence UMC’s motorcycle rally

Registration is now open for the 2nd annual, “rally4thekidz,” an Oct. 23-26 motorcycle rally hosted by Providence United Methodist Church to raise funds for kidz2leaders, Inc.

Riders from the southside of Atlanta will leave from Providence at 9 a.m. on Oct. 23 to meet up with the rest of the group at Mt. Bethel UMC in Marietta. The group will ride from Marietta to their home base for the weekend, the Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge in Stecoah, N.C.

Throughout the weekend bikers will ride famous motorcycle routes, including Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway.

North Fayette UMC will host 5K, craft fair, BBQ

North Fayette United Methodist Church will hold its 8th annual “Find Your Way 5K,” craft fair, and chicken barbecue on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The 5K event is officially timed and trophies are awarded based on age classes.

There is also a provision for walkers (5K and one mile) and a kids’ fun run. Phantom runners are also accepted.

Crafts will be displayed in tents around the church yard and barbecued chicken (1/2 or 1/4 chicken) will be available.

Proceeds will fund the various ministries for the North Fayette community. Read More»

Mount Olive Baptist will host ‘Gospel Under the Stars’

Mount Olive Baptist Church will host its largest gospel event in 2014, “Gospel Under The Stars, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20, from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. The event will feature male quartet groups, male choirs, tag team preaching, Olympic style games, raffles, food and fun.

“Just bring your blankets and lawn chairs and share in this spiritual extravaganza,” a spokesperson said.

Vendors will also be present. Admission is free.

Pastor’s study begins Sunday

Peachtree City United Methodist Church is launching its new Pastor’s Study, Sunday, Sept. 7 from 5:30-7 p.m. at its Robinson Road campus.

PTCUMC’s senior pastor, Dr. Steve Dodson, kicks off this adult program with a series titled, “Developing Christ-like Character.”

Participants will take a five week (Sept. 7 – Oct. 5) journey through the scriptures discussing what it means to reflect Christ in their life, with their family, at work, and in society. Read More»

NFUMC Bible study groups forming now

North Fayette United Methodist Church, 847 New Hope Rd., Fayetteville, is forming Covenant Bible Study groups for Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings. Anticipated start date for the groups will be Sept. 23 and 24.

Covenant Bible Study is a 24-week program, but is divided into three eight-week modules which may be taken independently. This new Bible Study covers most of scripture with a theme of biblical relationships created by and lived through covenant.

Carolyn Curry to speak at October meeting of seniors’ group at FFUMC

Atlanta resident and writer Carolyn Curry will discuss her current biography, Suffer and Grow Strong, The Life of Ella Gertrude Clanton Thomas, 1834-1907, at the Tuesday, Oct. 7 luncheon meeting of Titus II at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. The event will be held in the Family Life Center at noon.
