The Southside Theatre Guild in downtown Fairburn is thrilled to open it’s 38th season with a revival of one of Atlanta’s best-loved, original musical comedies, “Della’s Diner...Blue Plate Special.”

James Rudolph Wojcik, 68, of Jonesboro, formerly of Buffalo, NY, died September 22, 2010.

Ramsey to play role in immigration policy

State Rep. Matt Ramsey will play a pivotal role in shaping Georgia’s take on immigration reform. Ramsey, who lives in Peachtree City, has been appointed to co-chair a joint House/Senate panel that will be looking at solutions to immigration issues to “pick up where Washington D.C. has let us down,” according to House Speaker David Ralston. McDonough Rd. Baptist will offer ‘Fireproof’ the movie October 10

“Fireproof” the movie, starring Kirk Cameron and Erin Bethea, will be presented at McDonough Road Baptist Church on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 5 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The 2008 release is about fire captain Caleb Holt and his valiant effort to save his struggling marriage.

Living by the old firefighter’s adage Never Leave Your Partner Behind, Holt faces his greatest challenge ever on the home front, and that is rescuing and resuscitating his marriage.

STG holding auditions for Christmas play

Southside Theatre Guild in downtown Fairburn will hold non-equity, open auditions for “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus”  on Monday, Oct. 4 and Tuesday, Oct. 5.  Both nights will begin with a 6:30 p.m. sign-in. This is a family show, so families are encouraged to audition.  Ages range from 8 to 80 plus.

This is a large production (17+ men and 8+ women), so there will be lots of opportunities for many. 

There will be eight performances – Dec. 2-5; 9-12. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sundays.

Cheryl Ann Howell, 53, of Snellville, died September 21, 2010.

She is survived by her father James F. Howell Jr., of Fayetteville; sisters Lynn Thaggard, Debra Graham, and Lisa Nelson; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 24, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville with Rev. Paul Carder officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, prior to the service.

New Hope Baptist’s missions conference starts tonight, continues through Sunday

New Hope Baptist Church members are celebrating 10 years of mission work and invite the public to join them for their missions conference Sept. 22 - 26, as they celebrate “Send Me!”
