Christian City calls on community with needs list  for The Children’s Village

The Children’s Village at Christian City is in need of the following items and would appreciate any help the community can provide:

• Paper plates, napkins, cups
• Toilet tissue and paper towels
• Canned fruits and vegetables
• Boxed macaroni and cheese
• Peanut butter
• Individually wrapped snacks and drinks
• Kid friendly Cereals
• Batteries
• Personal hygiene items for girls

Early voting begins for Aug. 10 runoff

Early voting for the primary runoff election Aug. 10 began Monday in three locations in Fayette County.

Voters may cast early ballots between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. today through Friday at:
• The county elections office at 140 Stonewall Avenue West, Suite 208;
• The Peachtree City Library at 201 Willowbend Road next to City Hall; or
• The Tyrone Library at 143 Commerce Drive.

There will be no early voting on Monday as officials prepare for the runoff election Tuesday, Aug. 10 in which voters must go to their regular precinct to cast a vote. Read More»

March of Dimes event this Friday

In an unprecedented cooperative effort, Fun 101.1 FM will join with Fayetteville Dwarf House, Newnan Dwarf House, Chick-fil-A Thomas Crossroads, Truett’s Grill in Griffin, and Truett’s Grill in McDonough in the 1st Annual Southern Crescent Broadcasters for Babies event to benefit the March of Dimes Georgia Chapter. Margaret Nall Spears of Riverdale

Margaret Nall Spears, a long-time resident of Riverdale, GA and later at Baptist Manor in Palmetto, died peacefully at Lafayette Nursing Home in Fayetteville on July 29, 2010.

She retired from the Atlanta Public School System with over 20 years of service. In later years, she was a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Riverdale’s Senior Citizens’ organizations, and her beloved church, Riverdale First Baptist. “Miss Margaret” was a pillar of her church and community. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Read More»

Clearance sale is Saturday

The Second Chance Thrift Shop, an outreach of Brooks United Methodist Church, will have a giant clearance sale on Saturday, July 31, from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the gym at Brooks UMC.

There will be a hamburger and hotdog lunch available (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.) for a donation, and a bake sale with homemade goodies.

Grantville gospel sings moved
The monthly Grantville Gospel Sings, which have been held in Grantville’s Railroad Freight Depot, will now be held in Grantville’s New Life Baptist Church, 5710 South U.S. Hwy. 29, directly across the road from Glanton Elementary School. The sings will begin at 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m., as they did in the Depot. Sings, featuring local gospel groups, are scheduled for this Friday and Saturday, July 23 and 24.
