In Southside Theatre Guild’s production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” Grace Bradley, played by Missy Gossett, learns how difficult it is to produce her church’s annual Christmas pageant. Her task is even harder when the Herdmans, a group of loud, messy and rude brothers and sisters, join the cast. Richard S. Clifford, age 83

Mr. Richard S. Clifford, age 83, born in Galveston, Texas and a resident of Peachtree City, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Lorene Crutcher Clifford and is survived by his son, Stephen W. Clifford and wife, Pam Shook of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter, Martha Jean Farrell and husband, Richard of Peachtree City; grandsons, Patrick, Robert and Douglas Farrell; sister in-law, Grace Clifford; several nieces and nephews in Galveston, Texas. Flint River named one of state's dirtiest rivers

The river that forms the eastern border of Fayette County has received a fourth place ranking on Georgia’s “Dirty Dozen” list by the Georgia Water Coalition. And while the designation deals with politics as much as with pollution, local biologist Dennis Chase said the Fayette County portion of the Flint is still suffering from a chemical spill at Hartsfield-Atlanta Airport a decade ago. Christmas is right around the corner and local municipalities will get in the holiday spirit this weekend with tree lightings, parades and other events.

Brooks UMC offers fitness classes

Brooks United Methodist has been offering Zumba and group personal training in the church gym. Those have been so popular that Tai Chi has been added on Monday and Thursday evenings and now Yoga-lates on Tuesday and Thursdays at 11 a.m.

Also, new to the program are nutrition and diet classes on Mondays at 10 a.m. and Thursdays at 7:45 p.m. Diet and nutrition can improve at least 75 percent of goals for fitness, health and wellness.

Milton L. Bowen, age 79, of Canton

Milton L. Bowen, age 79, of Canton, Ga. passed away Monday, Nov. 19, 2012 at his residence.

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville, a Korean War Veteran, Member of the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge, Yaarab Temple Member, Lifetime member of the Disabled American Veteran, member of VFW Post 5080 & The American Legion.

Hiram Atwood Walters, age 87 of College Park

Mr. Hiram Atwood Walters, age 87 of College Park, passed away on Saturday, Nov.10, 2012 at Sacred Journey Hospice.

Mr. Walters was born in Ovett, Miss. on Nov. 12, 1924.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Walters was retired after 27 years as a Lt. Col with the United States Air Force, having flown missions in World War II, Korea and Vietnam and being awarded the distinguished Flying Cross. Read More»
