DOT: No problems with ramp meters at Hwy. 74/I-85

Red-light ramp meters at the on-ramp for Interstate 85 northbound at Ga. Highway 74 became operational July 1.

The meters are programmed to kick in only when interstate traffic is heavy, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. The agency is touting the meters as a tool to improve travel times and reduce congestion. Read More»

Oakley Blvd. in Fairburn to be widened

The traffic snarls for Fayette residents making their way to I-85 via Ga. Highway 92 will see some improvement in traffic congestion on Oakley Industrial Boulevard with the award of $1.5 million to add a third lane and turn lanes between Fayetteville Road and Ga. Highway 138.

The $1.5 million grant award to the South Fulton Community Improvement District (CID) by way of the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank was announced last week by Gov. Sonny Perdue. Read More»

Sheila Crowe is new pastor at Brooks UMC

The Rev. Sheila Crowe has been assigned as pastor of Brooks United Methodist Church, after having served as pastor at Hogansville First Methodist.

The assignment comes following the United Methodist Church’s North Georgia Conference yearly reassignments.

Crowe says she has a passion for families and building the kingdom of God.

She is a graduate of Mercer’s McAfee School of Theology and attended classes in Methodism at Asbury and Emory University. She has been in the ministry for 15 years and is an ordained elder. Read More»

The Children's Village is in need of child sponsors

The Children’s Village at Christian City is a residential, family centered program which cares for abandoned, abused, and neglected children who have no other safe place to go.  The children live in cottages with full time house parents on the Christian City campus located in Union City.
