PTCUMC kids’ musical is tonight

MRBC presents musical drama ‘The Birth’ Dec. 5

The McDonough Road Baptist Church celebration choir and orchestra will present “The Birth” next Sunday, Dec. 5, at 10:55 a.m. and 6 p.m. The musical/drama is built around the story of two brave young women who face tremendous obstacles on the way to the births of their first child. COS Children’s Christmas musical set for this Sunday

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church will present a children’s Christmas musical on Sunday, Dec. 5, in the sanctuary at 6 p.m.

“The Best Christmas Present Ever” tells the story of a group of children who plan a birthday party for Jesus, and then try to publicize it on television.

The cast is headlined by Emily McDowell, Natalie Robichaux, Lindsey Poff, Morgan Wiese, Jessica Knowles, Ansley Jacobson, Ashleigh Shriner, Michael King, Carson Robichaux, and Cassie Crosby.

Christmas Mid-week Advent Services will be held Dec. 1 and Dec. 8 with two service times, 5 and 7 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. On Dec. 15, Advent Worship will consist of a Children’s Christmas Program at 7 p.m. No dinner will be served. Reverend John “Maurice” Fain, 82, of Jonesboro

Reverend John “Maurice” Fain, 82, of Jonesboro, died November 25, 2010.

He was a guidance counselor for 23 years for Fayette County High School and was an interim pastor, mission pastor for the Eastside Baptist Church of Riverdale and First Baptist Church of Peachtree City and pastor for numerous other churches in the Atlanta South Metro area. The last 10 years, Rev. Fain was the director of prison ministry at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Betsy Fain, grandson Andrew Harrison Battle, one brother, and two sisters. Read More»

James “Marvin” Melear, 82, of Ringold, GA died November 22, 2010.

He is survived by his son Alton L. Melear of Hoschton, GA; granddaughter Jessica Lauren Melear of Hoschton; grandson Sgt. Brady Alton and Tammy Melear; great-grandchildren Brayden Lane Melear and Preston Andrew Melear; sisters Dorothy Stephens of Chattahoochee Hills and Edna Mitchell; and brothers Kenneth Melear of Fayetteville and Harvey Melear of Fairburn. Henrietta “Henri” Dettmering Jerol of Cumming

Henrietta “Henri” Dettmering Jerol of Cumming, GA died November 23, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

She was born January 2, 1943 in Fayetteville, GA; attended Fayette County High School and Brenau Academy in Gainesville, GA. She received her nursing degree from Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing in 1964 and except for a short time in medical sales she spent her entire career at Piedmont where she was part of the nursing team that opened the first Cardiac Care unit in Atlanta. Tighter rules for illegals studied

A legislative committee studying the effects of illegal immigrants on Georgia is looking at several potential issues to consider for the upcoming lawmaking session.

Peachtree City Republican Matt Ramsey, who co-chairs the committee, said the committee is still in an information gathering mode. But the committee is looking at a variety of areas, including a process by which Georgia law enforcement officers would be able to verify whether a detainee is a citizen or not. Read More»

Prayer and praise group meets in Tyrone
A group of about 35-40 believers from the “southern crescent of Atlanta” recently started what is now a weekly prayer and praise gathering in Tyrone.
