Local man admits to interfering with postal investigation

A Fayetteville man pled guilty Tuesday to leaking information about a federal investigation to a potential target of the probe, federal prosecutors said.

Randall T. Smith, 53, a postal carrier at the East Point Post Office, was accused of disclosing details of “how the agents were acquiring evidence in the case. This type of leak and abuse of position is not acceptable and he now has a federal criminal record.” Read More»

Brooks UMC plans barbecue, bake sale, thrift shop sale November 20

Members of Brooks United Methodist Church invite the community to attend their annual fall barbeque, bake sale and bonanza sale at the church gym Saturday, Nov. 20.

The men will be serving pork barbeque by the plate with all the trimmings.The ladies will have home made baked goods for sale to compliment this year’s Thanksgiving meal. The Second Chance Thrift Shop will be there with great bargains.

All Thrift Shop proceeds benefit local, state, and world missions.

Fayette family seeks help after house fire

For Ronnie and Brenda Mask it is a difficult matter of starting over. The Fayette County couple had been slowly making a number of renovations to an old house in Meriwether County they bought nearly 10 years ago until the house burned to the ground in early October. Orbin D. Howell, Jr., died Tuesday, October 19, 2010, ten days short of his 90th birthday. Funeral services were held Friday, October 22, 2010 at 11:00AM at First Presbyterian Church in Macon with the Reverend Chip Miller and the Reverend John Kinser officiating. Burial followed at Macon Memorial Park.

Mr. Howell was born in Macon, GA to the late Orbin D. and Annie Dean Howell. He was also predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Virginia G. Howell. Read More»
