Legislator outlines tax credit for private schools

The Summit will host yard sale June 4
The Summit Church on Ga. Highway 92 South will hold a “Youth Trip Yard Sale” Saturday, June 4, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the church’s youth mission trip this summer. Israel, foreign policy, deficits draw Rep. Westmoreland’s attention

Congressman Lynn Westmoreland (R-3rd District) had a foreign policy question for members of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce in Fayetteville May 20.

“How do others look at us?” Westmoreland asked, narrowing the focus of the international perspective to Israel in conjunction with the statements by President Obama that Israel’s borders be set like they were prior to the 1967 war.

“Will we be a strong ally for Israel, our most reliable ally? The Golan Heights (the high ground in the West Bank) provide a clear view of Israel,” the Grantville congressman said. Read More»

Registration for CDM’s summer camp ends this Saturday

Southside kids have until this Saturday, May 28, to register for the summer camp to be hosted by Christ Discipleship Ministries (CDM) in Fairburn May 31 through Aug. 5. Registration hours are 9 a.m. until noon Saturday.

CDM is collaborating with Patterson Sports Authority, FHS Business Consulting, Path To Wellness Foundation, DEC (Driver Empowerment Center), and the QYRx Group to sponsor the camp called CDM/PSA Summer Youth Camp 2011, to be held at Christ Discipleship Ministries, 114 W. Registration opens for Heritage’s WinShape C3 Day Camp

Registration is now open for Winshape C3 Camp, which will be hosted by Heritage Christian Church, July 11-15. The day camp is open to all students who have completed first through sixth grade. Camp runs from 7:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. Cost is $179 for a full week of camp. A deposit of $50 is due upon registration.

Distribution center opens near I-85 in Fairburn; truck traffic to increase

The Electrolux Corp. on May 13 opened a 600,000 square-foot distribution center near I-85 on Ga. Highway 92 in Fairburn. That’s just under 14 acres under roof. The opening follows the opening of another distribution center in Fairburn by the Clorox Corp. earlier this year and one by the Smucker’s company two years ago, both off Oakley Industrial Boulevard near Ga. Rep. Ramsey gets his illegal immigrant bill signed into law

WIth several swift flicks of a pen, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal May 13 approved the immigration reforms negotiated in an eleventh-hour deal between the two chambers of the Georgia Legislature.

The measure is aimed at preventing illegal immigrants from gaining employment, and it also allows law enforcement officers to check the immigration status of persons being investigated for misdemeanor crimes and traffic stops. Read More»
