ARC: Coweta population to swell to quarter-million by 2040, Fayette to 168,500

A new population forecast for the 20-county metro Atlanta area prepared by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) shows Coweta County’s 2040 population at nearly a quarter-million people, more than double the estimated 2010 population. Meantime, the population in the 20-county Atlanta area is expected to increase to 8.26 million during the same period, an increase of 57.1 percent over 2010. Read More»

Sen. Chance: HOPE, Pre-K to take hits in tight budget

Truett-McConnell choir to perform

The college choir from Truett- McConnell College in Cleveland, Ga., will join members of the Flat Creek Baptist combined youth and adult choirs for a performance the weekend of March 19 and 20. Ben Caston will direct.

Dr. Emir Caner, president at Truett-McConnell, will be the guest speaker at the morning worship service on Sunday, March 20.

Flat Creek Baptist is on Flat Creek Trail between Ga. Highway 54 and Tyrone Road.

Unite 11 service is this Friday
The Eleventh Hour Call Church in Fayetteville will host its monthly Unite 11 service Friday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. at the Harvest Christian Community Center (HCCC). This month’s speaker will be the Rev. 'Tuesdays with Morrie' opens at Southside Theatre Guild this week

Mitch Albom’s “Tuesday with Morrie,” has enjoyed success as both a best-selling book and a television movie starring Jack Lemmon and Hank Azaria. The memoir focuses on Mitch and his old college professor Morrie discussing what’s really important in life. The story is sentimental but also thought-provoking and, at times, very funny.

Southside Theatre Guild in downtown Fairburn will present the award winning play “Tuesdays with Morrie” for two weekends, beginning this Thursday, Feb. 24 and running Thursdays-Sundays, through Mar. 6. Read More»

Mr. Kenneth Dale Crittenden, 49, of Hampton, passed away on February 11, 2011.

Mr. Crittenden is survived by his mother Sarah Hester; brothers, Marvin Crittenden and his wife Penny, Danny Crittenden, and Ricky Crittenden and his wife Pam.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Pastor Ken Magness officiating. Burial will follow at Banks Cemetery. Legislative bill will encourage hiring even more illegal immigrants

I recently came across the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association’s Daily Legislative Watch and learned something quite disturbing. This legislative update contained a reference to SB 7, a bill proposed by the Insurance and Labor Committee that would essentially prevent illegal immigrants the ability to collect workers’ compensation if injured or sick on the job.

My question to the committee members is, “Are you trying to attract more illegal immigrants to Georgia?” Because with this bill, that is exactly the effect it will have. Read More»
