Heritage Christian to host WinShape C3 Day Camp

Registration is now open for Winshape C3 Camp, which will be hosted by Heritage Christian Church, July 11-15. The day camp is open to all students who have completed first through sixth grade. Camp runs from 7:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. Cost is $179 for a full week of camp. A deposit of $50 is due upon registration.

Georgia Singers spring concert will be held this Sunday, May 22 at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City. The concert is free. Georgia Singers is a community choral organization for women from grades 7 through college-age and beyond, under the direction of nationally recognized conductor, Dr. Franklin Green and accompanied by Rick Massengale. Rickie Lamar Davis, age 53

Mr. Rickie Lamar Davis, age 53 of Brooks, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2011 at his residence.

Mr. Davis was born on October 27, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Sylvester Davis and the late Mary Peters Davis. He was also preceded in death by his brother Harry Davis.

Survivors include his brothers and sister-in-law, Gene and Judy Davis, Vester Davis; sisters and brother-in-law, Sue Gardner, Judy and Ralph Porter; several nieces and nephews. Read More»

Margo Jean Burnett, 50, of Loganville

Margo Jean Burnett, 50, of Loganville, passed away on May 12, 2011.

Mrs. Burnett was a loving wife and mother, and her two sons were her life. She worked at Wal-Mart for twoand a half years. She was a people person who was always willing to help others in any way possible. Her family remembers her as an encourager who always wanted them to do their best.

Aberham “Sam” Campbell, age 85, of Jonesboro, died May 6, 2011.

Sam loved his family and friends and enjoyed nothing more than raking leaves in the fall.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Jeannett Campbell; six sons: Stanley & Brenda of Pascagoula, MS; Ron of Manchester, TN; Bradley & Barbara of Gay, GA; Bobby of Denver, NC; Clay of Jonesboro, GA and Robbie of Jonesboro, GA and two daughters: Janet & Jerry Lee of Chipley, FL; and Frida Stroup of Hampton, GA; 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Disaster cleanup help still needed

In response to the April storms, the North Georia United Methodist Conference Disaster Response Team has set up a call center to help match cleanup and repair needs with volunteer teams. The phone number for the Call Center is 678-533-1443. Email the call center at response@ngumc.org.

Thrift shop plans sale, breakfast

The Second Chance Thrift Shop will have its annual sale in the gym at Brooks United Methodist Church on Friday and Saturday, May 13 and 14, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds benefit local, national and international outreach and mission programs.

A pancake breakfast is also planned Saturday morning from 8 – 11:30 a.m. There is no cost for the breakfast, but donations will be accepted.

Brooks UMC is at the corner of Ga. Highway 85 Connector and Morgan Mill Road.

Chance: Regional road tax would help Fayette get money back

State Senator Ronnie Chance (R-Tyrone)

While some are up in arms about the possibility of a regional transportation sales tax being enacted in Fayette County, there is a good bit of upside, according to State Sen. Ronnie Chance of Tyrone.

Currently, some 90 percent of the state’s transportation funding is spent north of Interstate 20, Chance told The Citizen in an interview Monday.

If the new tax is approved by voters next year, it will help “level the playing field” in that regard, Chance said. Read More»
