Lifting a hand to fight hunger

Patrons of the Southside Theatre Guild donated over 200 food items to the Fairburn Community Food Bank recently as part of a food drive associated with the production of Pinocchio.

Participants were asked to bring a non-perishable food item in exchange for a concession treat to help stock up the food bank during the upcoming holiday season.

Southside Theatre Guild, an all-volunteer community theatre has been entertaining audiences for the past 41 years and was happy to have this chance to along with their great patrons give back to the city of Fairburn and the surrounding community. Read More»

McDonough Road Baptist presents ‘It’s Christmas!’

The Celebration Choir and Orchestra of McDonough Road Baptist Church in Fayetteville will present “It’s Christmas!” Sunday, Dec. 8, at 10:55 a.m. and 6 p.m. Childcare will be provided.

“‘It’s Christmas!’ is an exciting, thrilling, invigorating time of worship and music that emphasizes the true meaning of Christmas,” said Mark Karki, minister of music and worship.

Mrs. Christine L. Williams, age 84, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Fayette Piedmont Hospital.

Mrs. Williams was born in Atlanta, Ga. on November 14, 1929.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James Thompson and Carrie M. Thompson; her husband, Henry Kelly Williams; daughter, Janice Williams; brother, Pete Thompson.

Mr. Walter William Berg, age 47 of Griffin, Ga., passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2013 while participating in the annual Altamaha River Partnership's Ride for the River.

Walter Berg was born in Rockford, Ill. on December 21, 1965.

Canton Jones to appear at UCFI South

Unity Christian Fellowship International (UCFI) South will hold its Inaugural Celebration on Nov. 23, featuring gospel recording superstar, Canton Jones.

The event will be hosted at the Banneker High School auditorium, 6015 Feldwood Road, College Park. The free event begins at 5 p.m.. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.

PTC woman dies in 8-vehicle pileup in Cobb

A Peachtree City woman was killed Thursday in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 75 in Acworth Thursday afternoon, according to the Cobb County Police Department.

Barbara Phenicie, 71, was the front-seat passenger in a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country minivan that was struck from behind by a BMW which caught fire during the eight-vehicle pileup, police said.

Mrs. Phenicie’s husband, Dale, 72, and son, Jonathan, 38 were treated at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for non life-threatening injuries, police said. Read More»
