Fairburn resident discusses CTCA and healthy living

Roderick Echols of Fairburn was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer in June of last year. When CTCA at Southeastern Regional Medical Center opened its doors in Newnan on August 15, 2012, he was one of the first patients at the facility. Flu reaches epidemic level in Georgia, state says

Georgia Department of Public Health officials urge Georgians to get flu shots

The state of Georgia is now in the midst of a flu epidemic, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health in a news release issued Friday afternoon.

The flu is hitting Georgia harder this year than it has in nearly a decade, the DPH said. Flu activity is widespread throughout the state and the number of flu related hospitalizations is high. So far, two adult, flu-related deaths have been reported in Georgia. Read More»

Legislative preview: More cuts

The calendar may have changed to 2013, but legislators this month will begin to face the main issue that has affected Georgia the past several years: state budget cuts.

Wrestling with those cuts will be one of the top duties of local legislators Rep. Matt Ramsey (R-Peachtree City) and Sen. Ronnie Chance (R-Tyrone).

Chance will serve this year as the new majority leader of the Senate, the second-highest ranking position in the chamber. Ramsey will again this year serve as vice chair of the majority caucus. Read More»

Mrs. Patricia Miller Haage of Fairburn (formerly of Minneapolis) passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Russell Haage and is survived by her daughter, Heidi Winter and husband, Alan of Fairburn; sons, Bret Haage of Minneapolis, Minn., Greg Haage and wife, Denise of Golden Valley, Minn.; sisters, Janis Culver of Fairburn, Gwynna Taylor of Springfield, Vt.; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Winter officiating. Read More»
