Lenten lunches start today at FFUMC
Beginning Ash Wednesday and continuing on subsequent Thursdays through March 28, from noon until 1 p.m.  Fayetteville First United Methodist Church will host Lenten Lunches prepared by the UMC circles and a devotional message by pastors, lay leaders and other guest speakers. The lunches will be served in the Fellowship Hall. The cost is $2. The church is across from the old courthouse in downtown Fayetteville.

Sarah Juanita Daniel Marsh

Sarah Juanita Daniel Marsh, 86, of College Park, Ga. died Saturday Feb. 9, 2013 peacefully at Piedmont Hospital surrounded by her children and many of her grandchildren.

Reverend Frank Floyd Strickland, 89, of Thomaston

Reverend Frank Floyd Strickland, 89, of Thomaston, Ga. passed away Jan. 28, 2013.

He was born March 5, 1923 in Winter Garden, Fla. He was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1948 and served within six churches.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Sarah Strickland and two grandsons. Read More»

Jay Byess, age 48, of Stockbridge, Ga. died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013.

He was born in Atlanta, Ga. to the late Connie Annie Byess. He was a member of St. James The Apostle Catholic Church.

Jay is survived by his daughters: Jenna Marie (Jonathan Winskie) Byess, McDonough, Ga. and Angel Smith, Covington, Ga.; brother: Dwayne Byess, Lagrange, Ga.; sister: Connie Pauline Pierce, Gainsville, Ga.; former spouse, Theresa Byess, Puyallup, Wash.; and mother-in-law: Carol Henson, Fayetteville, Ga.

Brooks UMC will offer classes in waltz, wedding dance beginning Feb. 16

Beginning Saturday, Feb. 16 through March 9, from 7 until 8 p.m., Brooks UMC will offer classes in the waltz , taught at a beginner level. Then, from 8-8:30 p.m., there will be a bonus class in wedding dance, also at a beginner level.

People who do not want to make a financial commitment may drop in for a fee of $10 per person, per class. The class is $35 per person for a four week session.

This class will be dancing to the one-step which is a classic romantic dance and will cover all love songs that are not waltz tempo. Read More»

Dogwood Church offers GriefShare

Community members who have experienced the death of a family member or friend are invited to register for the GriefShare program held at Dogwood Church.

Those attending will find encouragement, comfort and help in grieving the death of a loved one.

GriefShare is held on Wednesdays from 7 - 8:30 p.m. in the office building of Dogwood Church (975 Ga. Hwy. 74 in Tyrone). For information, call 770-692-7634 or email ddarby@dogwoodchurch.org.

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City will offer a Marriage Seminar, “Love Talk,” on Feb. 10, from 2-5 p.m. at the church. Making use of the work of Drs. COS plans Service of Hope Feb. 4l
The public is invited to a Service of Hope at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. The featured speaker is Karl Dietmeyer, musician and conductor, Delta pilot, and love researcher. Dietmeyer has investigated ways to more effectively and creatively express love for several years. Music will be led by the Christ Our Shepherd Flute Choir. These bi-monthly services always include communion and prayers for healing.
