Mrs. Jessie Dutton, age 87, of Forsyth (formerly of Fayette County) passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014. 

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 1 o’clock at Mt. Zion UMC Cemetery with Dr. Jimmy Orr officiating.

Race for Riley could draw more than 1,000 to Serenbe

The 10th Annual Race for Riley fundraiser for the Joseph Sams School in Fayetteville will be held April 26 at Serenbe in south Fulton County. The annual fundraiser customarily attracts more than 1,000 participants and visitors from across metro Atlanta.

The race and activities associated with the fundraiser are named for Riley Peek, who at age 2 was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease. This systemic condition causes her to be non-verbal, have abnormal brain function, gastrointestinal problems, muscle failure and delayed development. Read More»

Joan Holland Wilson of Cedartown

Joan Holland Wilson

Joan Holland Wilson went home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2014. 

She was born in Cedartown, Ga., to William Pratt and Annie Casey Holland. After graduation from Cedartown High School, she moved to Atlanta and attended business college before being employed with the Georgia State Public Service Commission. 

Joan met her husband, John, while working with the State of Georgia.  During their dating period, she also attended art school, studying under a noted portrait artist.  They were married on November 13, 1966 and have two children:  Rhonda Ann and William Carlton.  Read More»

Also, their grandchildren – Michael & Katy Brown, Kelly & Bob Anderson, Ryan & Jake Kunz, Joshua & Jennifer McCullough, Elizabeth & Ed Chao, Tyler Brown and Trent Brown; nine great-grandchildren – Colby, Alex, Reed, Helen, Carly, Gracie, Samuel, Parker and Brooklyn; a sister – Reba Watkins; and many nieces and nephews. Avery Bailey age 89 of Locust Grove

Avery (A.O.) Bailey age 89 of Locust Grove, Ga. passed away on March 23, 2014. He was a loving and generous husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.

A.O. was a proud World War II veteran who served his country in the Air Force. He was based in London and flew 25 raids over enemy lines in the B-17 as a flight engineer/gunner. After the war, he worked in the aviation field as a pilot and mechanic for Eastern and Piedmont Airlines. A.O. retired from Airlift International. Read More»

Local author’s book on abstinence available free to churches, ministries

The book, “The Abstinance Handbook: for Women and Girls throughout the World” by local author Kim Wilson, is available free to churches and ministries to distribute to women and girls free of charge through youth ministries, church services, women’s ministries, community outreach (by mail or door-to-door), Bible studies, etc. The book is being made available through The Loretta Johnson Global Abstinence Project. Elizabeth Lee Webster, of Forsyth,

Elizabeth Lee "Beth" Webster, of Forsyth, passed away March 17, 2014.

She was a 1983 graduate of Fayette County High School. She attended Georgia College in Milledgeville on an athletic scholarship and graduated with an accounting degree. She founded Webster Residential Properties and currently worked with Freudenberg Texbond as an accountant. She has a mini-farm and loved animals.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Wayne & Lizzie Bradford and Otis & Sue Webster. Read More»
