Fayette’s legislators detail their priorities for Jan. 12 session

The Citizen asked the members of the Fayette legislative delegation two general questions: what they see as the statewide priorities for the upcoming session and what they see as the local (Fayette County) priorities for the 2015 session.

Mrs. Margaret Duggar Campbell, age 82, of Murfreesboro, Tenn. passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Robert Wendell Campbell and Donald Wayne Campbell and is survived by her husband George Wendell Campbell; son Darrell Clay Campbell and his wife Teresa of Murfreesboro Tenn.; daughter Wanda Campbell Washowich and her husband Todd of Woodstock, Ga.; brother, Robert Earl Duggar and his wife Joyce of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Kristina, Benjamin, Michelle, Andrew, Phillip, Matthew, Daniel, Tori and Erin; 11 great grandchildren. The First LEGO League (FLL) Super Regionals are once again returning to Clayton State University.

 This year’s version of the popular competition for regional, young STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) whizzes ages 9 to 14 will be an all-day event held in Clayton State’s James M. Cirque du Soleil singer, cellist coming to Spivey

For her day job, she performs in Las Vegas with Cirque du Soleil, where for the past two years she has been the featured performer in the KA show’s seven-piece band, singing the finale each night.

Even with the grind of performing ten shows a week, Shana Tucker still finds the time to write and perform her own music which she has dubbed “ChamberSoul” for its dual jazz and classical pedigrees, knotted by the thrum and moan of her cello.

Tucker is bringing her talent to Clayton State University’s Spivey Hall Jan. 25 at 3 p.m. for this year’s Teacher Appreciation Concert. Read More»

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City announces a change in worship schedule. Beginning Jan. 3, Saturday evening worship will be at 6 p.m. This service, 45 minutes in length, has been called “warm and family-like” by minister in music David Beecher. It includes music, hymns, a sermon, and Holy Communion. All are welcome. The church is at the corner of Ga. Highway 54 and Peachtree Parkway.

Ga. Baptists stand with Atl. Fire Chief Cochran

The Georgia Baptist Convention (GBC) is calling on the Christian community to “stand up for biblical principles and fellow believers who are punished or marginalized for their faith.”

The Duluth agency, which represents 1.4-million members statewide, felt called to respond to the recent 30-day suspension of Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran by Mayor Kasim Reed. The statement was issued by the GBC’s Public Affairs Committee on Dec. 9. Read More»
