Herbert Wayne Green, Jr.

Herbert Wayne Green, Jr., 67, a native of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, passed away in Macon, Ga. on June 11, 2014 with his family by his side.

He was born on May 31, 1947 in Harrisonburg, Va. to the late Herbert Wayne Green, Sr. and Adele Pastula Green. Herb was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Afterwards, he graduated from Lord Fairfax Community College and went on to obtain his real estate license from Bridgewater College. Bradley Richard Brown, 56, of Brooks, Ga. passed away June 15, 2014.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 31 years Sharon Brown; daughters Sydney and Haley Brown; son Griffin Brown; parents Richard & Katherine Brown; sister Elizabeth Jones; and also nieces & nephews.

Trade school signs up to produce film workers

Griffin’s Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC) is about to get in on the action created by the arrival of Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayetteville. SCTC has been approved to create the Georgia Film Institute (GFI), which will provide technical certificates for use in the growing film industry.

SCTC Director of Marketing and Public Relations Anna Taylor on June 4 said the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia approved the first five film and television technical certificates of credit created by Griffin-based SCTC. Read More»

CDM to offer evangelism seminar

Christ Discipleship Ministries (CDM) in Fairburn is calling all disciples of Christ to attend a free one-day seminar on evangelism and discipleship Saturday, June 17 from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The speaker will be prophet and pastor Timothy Frazier.

Virginia Gilpatrick, age 82, of Jonesboro

Mrs. Virginia Gilpatrick, age 82, of Jonesboro passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Willard Gilpatrick and is survived by her daughter, Vickie Anderson and her husband, Doug of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Michael Anderson and David Anderson.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 11 o’clock at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jeff Durham officiating.

The Summit plans yard sale
The Summit Church will hold a church-wide yard sale on Saturday June 7, from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the church,  1373 Ga. Hwy. 92 S. Fayetteville. Proceeds from the sale will go to the building fund. The Summit is building a Family Resource Center for the community which will house a food pantry, tutoring center, and a bank of computers and resources for job-seekers.

Connection Church plans ‘Weird Animals’ VBS next week

A summer kids’ event called Weird Animals VBS will be hosted at The Connection Church, 398 Corinth Rd., Jonesboro, from June 9 - 13 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. “Weird Animals: Where Jesus’ Love Is One-of-a-Kind” is for kids from kindergarten to fifth grade (last grade completed). Kids will participate in Bible-learning activities, sing songs, play teamwork-building games, make and dig into yummy treats, experience Bible adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies, and test out Sciency-Fun Gizmos they’ll take home and play with all summer long.
