Tyrone Tea Party activist tosses hat in ring for District 16 Senate race

Republican businessman and Tea party activist Marty Harbin announced Feb. 21 his candidacy for Georgia State Senate in the 16th district.

Harbin promised to fight for less government, more personal responsibility, and a better Georgia.

Current Senator Ronnie Chance announced his retirement last week after 10 years in the legislature.

“Ronnie is a good friend and I honor him for giving many years of his life to public service,” said Harbin. “In light of Ronnie’s retirement, I would be honored to represent the voters of the 16th district in the state Senate.” Read More»

Genealogy fair offered at LDS church
The Fayetteville Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will present a free Fayetteville Family History Fair on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 2021 Redwine Road, Fayetteville.  The event will feature keynote speaker Roger Hoffman, director of the Newnan Family History Center, and will offer classes on beginning research, Internet research, and overcoming brick walls. Refreshments and displays will be available. The public is invited.

Ribbon cutting is Friday at Christian City

The community is invited to a ribbon cutting at the Children’s Village at Christian City Feb. 21. The event is to celebrate completion of two new facilities on campus — the long awaited Crisis Stabilization Cottage and a new Multi-Court Recreational Facility.
Both will be valuable additions to the ministry of The Children’s Village at Christian City, and are the result of generous support from the community.

Benefit for Promise Place Feb. 28 at Legacy Theatre

On Feb. 28, Promise Place is hosting its first ever Improv Comedy night titled “Promise You’ll Laugh”. The event will be held at the Legacy Theatre in Tyrone.

A professional improvisational group from Atlanta will entertain the audience with 100 percent of the proceeds directly benefitting Promise Place.
