Dr. Sams will speak Wednesday on Thanksgiving, memories

The community is invited to join members of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church Wednesday night, Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. for a special Thanksgiving evening with Dr. Ferrol Sams Jr. speaking on the beauty of family and Thanksgiving and the importance of memory.

“Ferrol Sams is one of those rare artists who, through his amazing words, sings the commonplace, revealing the rich beauty, humor and love that surround us everyday,” said the Rev. All Saints Anglican will present ‘Home For the Holidays’ December 4

All Saints Anglican Church in Peachtree City will host a free Christmas music recital in its sanctuary on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. The theme for the event is “Home For The Holidays.”

The presentation will be organized and led by All Saints music director Shannon Bryan. Bryan will play the piano and accompany guest soprano Chelsea Buyalos. LeeLee Hunter will also perform solo classical guitar.

A small sampling of the music includes, “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” “Do You Hear What I Hear?,” “Ave Maria,” and “Oh Holy Night.” Read More»

Help decorate vets’ tree with personalized Christmas ornaments

The Civitans and United Daughters of the Confederacy are offering the community an opportunity to help decorate this year’s Veterans’ Christmas Tree in Fayetteville with personalized Christmas ornaments.

The tree will be placed in front of the Fayetteville Log Cabin and will be decorated with 6-8-inch Christmas balls. Individuals may purchase these ornaments for $10 in memory or in honor of a veteran. The name, rank, branch of service and date served will be printed on each ornament. COS plans chili dinner, Advent celebration

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church will mark Thanksgiving Eve with a chili supper and worship. The supper, an annual tradition, begins at 6 p.m. on Nov. 24. A variety of chilis and desserts will be offered.

Fayetteville First United Methodist Church’s 2010 Christmas Tour of Homes is Sat., Dec. 4 and Sun., Dec. 5 from 1 – 5 p.m. The community is invited to tour beautifully and seasonally decorated homes including the 1855 Holliday Dorsey Fife House and Prime Financial.

It was an occasion to remember the service of all veterans and the role they have played in the freedoms enjoyed by all Americans. Veterans Day in Peachtree City was observed Nov. 13 as crowds gathered for ceremonies at the Commemorative Air Force hanger at Falcon Field. Speaking at the event on the Korean War was Steve Quesinberry, chair of the Newnan High School Department of History and Social Studies.
