Although Peachtree City’s government offices are officially closed today, city Information Officer Betsy Tyler and IT Administrator Matthew Robinson surveyed the city’s busiest intersection and found traffic moving slowly but cautiously. “These were about 8:45 a.m. today (Matt & I walked) — SR 74 looking north across SR 54, and SR 54 looking west across SR 74. Some cars are out, moving slowly and some sliding when turning. You can’t see asphalt — covered by a sand & snow mix. It’s better to just stay in today! Brrr. — Betsy Tyler (reporting from home). Cars slip-sliding in PTC

Ice is making roads tough to navigate. This photo was provided by Peachtree City Public Information Officer Betsy Tyler.

This view of the intersection of Ga. highways 54 and 74 shows the ice on the road and a few motorists braving the elements. According to Peachtree City spokesperson Betsy Tyler, some of the cars slid while turning, underscoring the need for caution for those who absolutely must hit the road.

Officials are recommending all residents stay at home even though roads are passable. All local governments are closed in Fayette County.
