New PTC economic chief faces big challenges, modest budget

PTC economy guru to focus on retail, industry

Helping improve Peachtree City’s retail economy is one of the larger tasks on the plate of Joey Grisham, the city’s newly-hired economic development coordinator.

Grisham also said he is looking forward to “getting to know” local industries and identifying any expansion plans to determine how the city can assist those companies.

As a retail market consultant, Grisham has developed a large network of contacts with realtors, developers, site location consultants, retailers, and corporations that will be of benefit to Peachtree City, officials said. Read More»

Tyrone adopts adult business, cell tower ordinances

Also: Bid awarded for repaving work on 4 roads

The moratorium of Tyrone’s Adult Business Ordinance came to an end with little fanfare Thursday night. The changes made to the ordinance were adopted unanimously by the town council. Council members also unanimously adopted a new Cell Tower Ordinance.

The Adult Business Ordinance had been subject to a moratorium while being reviewed by the town’s Planning Commission. Prior to the revision and adoption by the council the ordinance had allowed adult businesses to operate in both the M-1 (Light Manufacturing) and M-2 (Heavy Manufacturing) zoning districts. Expansion approved for PTC's Southside Church

Buffer issues settled; master plan to be presented in future

With confusion over a tree save buffer cleared up, the Peachtree City Planning Commission Monday approved a plan to expand a building at Southside Church at the intersection of Robinson Road and Ebenezer Road.

The confusion resulted from a 1992 site plan approval for the property when it was owned by Braelinn Baptist Church. The actual plan map showed a 100 foot tree save area, part of which Southside Church had planned to build in. Read More»

Injuries avoided when car crashes into store

No one was injured when a Sharpsburg man accidentally drove through the front door of the Lenscrafters at The Avenue shopping center in Peachtree City early Thursday afternoon, police said.

There were people inside the business at the time, but they escaped injury when the vehicle crashed through the front, police said.

The driver was identified as B.J. Curry, 73, of Sharpsburg. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, police said in a news release late Thursday.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, Jonesboro. Rev. Larry Hammock will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service.

Born April 2, 1940, in Alabama, she lived in Alaska from the late 1990s until 2009. She had worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Alaska Department of Corrections.

Pennington announced as next PTC manager

Veteran has 32 years experience, wants 'high performance, citizen friendly organization"

Peachtree City’s next city manager comes with a wealth of experience, with some 32 years under his belt in eight different cities.

Dr. James Leonard Pennington most recently served as City Manager in Hartsville, S.C. where he served eight and a half years.

The city released background information on Pennington including his application and references at Thursday night’s abbreviated meeting of the city council. The employment agreement between the city and Pennington is expected to be approved by council at its March 3 meeting. Read More»
