Fayette BoE restores 1.5% of school system pay

School system employees got a portion of what they wanted Jan. 18 when Fayette County Board of Education members voted unanimously to restore 1.5 percent of the 4.5 percent pay cut from 2009 that took effect in the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

Gas golf cart ban denied

Gas golf carts aren't an endangered species in Peachtree City after all.

Brown: veto power for elections board will die in legislature

A bid to give the Fayette County Commission veto power over political parties’ appointees to the county elections board will not go forward in the Georgia legislature, effectively halting the controversial move in its tracks, according to Commissioner Steve Brown.

Mrs. Susan Katherine Rosa, 88, of Brooks, passed away on January 17, 2011.

Mrs. Rosa moved to Georgia from Florida in 1994. After her son passed away, she began crocheting blankets and newborn caps for the Project Linus. When she wasn’t spending time with her family, she loved reading and playing cards.

Two PTC men arrested for forging concert tickets

Peachtree City Police in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation have arrested two Peachtree City men in connection with selling forged concert tickets to victims across the Southeast.

Russell Davis, 22, and Jason Kimpel, 22, both of Peachtree City, were arrested Jan. 19, according to Peachtree City Police spokesperson Rosanna Dove. Davis was charged with theft by deception and forgery involving multiple victims while Kimpel was charged with theft by deception and being a party to a crime (forgery), also involving the same multiple victims, Dove said. PTC firefighter charged with DUI

Peachtree City firefighter/EMT Kevin Bernard McMullen was charged with DUI alcohol on the morning of Jan. 11. Fire department supervisors at McMullen’s place of work at Fire Station #81 at Paschall Road and Ga. Highway 74 initiated the process that led to the administration of sobriety tests by Peachtree City Police officers after performing a “mouth swab” at the fire station where McMullen had reported for duty. Subsequent testing showed the 32 year-old Fayetteville resident with a blood alcohol level of .135. Read More»

Mayor for Kedron gun show, staff nixed it without council input

\With several citizens’ concerns leading to the cancellation of a revenue-producing gun show renting out the Kedron Fieldhouse, Peachtree City Mayor Don Haddix says the City Council may once again look at setting a policy on what constitutes acceptable use of the facility.

When gun show representatives approached the recreation department about the possibility, city officials sought the public’s input on the matter. While most of the feedback was positive, a few residents were opposed to the event, and Leisure Services Director Randy Gaddo ultimately cancelled it.
