A Brooks resident who was fighting her way back from severe injuries in a Dec. 23 car crash died Saturday.

Reception for youth art exhibit Sunday

The Fayette Art Center will hold a reception for their Youth Drawing Exhibit for March from 2-5:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 7 at ArtWorks on the Square, 107 Stonewall Avenue in Fayetteville.

Entries include work by young artists from Spalding High, Griffin, Westlake High, Atlanta, Mundy's Mill, Jonesboro, Coan Middle School, Atlanta, Armor of God School, Riverdale, Hampton Middle School, Hampton and Fayette County High School.  First place prize is $75, second place is $50 and third place is $25, plus gift certificates from Michael’s. There will be live music and food and admission is free.

Gunman robs Fayetteville Lane Bryant

Fayetteville police are investigating the armed robbery of the Lane Bryant store at the Fayette Pavilion early Sunday evening.

The assailant apparently posed as a customer, placing clothing on the counter before pulling out a gun and demanding money along with the employees’ cellphones, police said. Read More»

Candice Smith, 19, of Brooks passed away February 27, 2010. Candice was a sophomore at Oxford College at Emory University and a member of Brooks United Methodist Church .

Series tickets for the 2010 BMW of South Atlanta summer concert series go on sale Saturday, March 6 at the Fred Box Office at 9 a.m. – noon. PTC to hear pitch for senior apartments

A company wanting to build an age-restricted apartment complex in Peachtree City will make a pitch to the City Council Tuesday night in a workshop meeting.

NorSouth Companies initially targeted an undeveloped 8-acre tract in the Lexington Circle mixed-use development off Ga. Highway 54 West, behind the Zaxby’s restaurant. But the company last week withdrew its formal application to lift the city’s multifamily rezoning moratorium for that site. Read More»

Fayetteville may continue to relax business sign usage

The Fayetteville City Council at the March 4 meeting will consider a resolution that would continue to relax the use of certain business signs for an additional six months due to the continuing recessionary downturn in the local economy.

The current extension on banners, stake signs and A-frame signs is set to expire March 5. The proposal by Senior Planner Linwood Robinson would extend the provisions until Sept. 5. Read More»

Work continues of 74 South widening

Earth moving crews continue to work Wednesday for the widening of Ga. Highway 74 South at Rockaway Road. Rockaway will be re-aligned to existing light at Holly Grove Road as part of the widening project.
