Help sought in 3 PTC apartment burglaries

The Peachtree City Police Department is investigating three daytime burglaries that happened between July 25-29 at the Camden Apartments.

In each case, the burglars gained access by kicking in the front door, police said. Items taken from the units included electronics and other miscellaneous property, police said.

PTC Council to hear about intersection issues, Dividend Drive pavement

The Peachtree City Council will conduct a workshop meeting Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss traffic issues at the intersection of Peachtree Parkway and Loring Lane, along with the pavement evaluation of Dividend Drive, the main thoroughfare through the city's industrial park.

The workshop will be held at City Hall. No formal vote is expected from council on either matter, as workshops are traditionally held for information sharing purposes.

School system employees: notify system when charged with crime

If you are a Fayette County school teacher and you get busted by the cops for anything above a traffic ticket, you have to report yourself to the principal.

That’s the gist of a new Fayette County School System policy under consideration by the Board of Education.

Human Resources Director Reanee Ellis in commenting on the policy noted that much of what is contained in it is already found other policies and is covered in the ethics training given to school system employees. Read More»

PTC changes alcohol distances

New colleges could have affected Westpark businesses

Peachtree City has tweaked its alcohol license distance requirements to accommodate existing businesses in the Westpark Walk shopping center.

The reason for the change, according to city staff, is the impact of colleges moving into office buildings in the Westpark area, which could have impacted businesses in the Westpark Walk shopping center. Among those are Carrabbas, El Ranchero, Pascal’s Bistro and City Tap.

Both Atlanta Christian College and Clayton State University have been leasing space in buildings near Westpark, officials said. Read More»

TDK celebrates 25 years in Peachtree City

Peachtree City’s TDK Components USA is celebrating its 25th anniversary in Peachtree City.

Its mission is slightly different from when it opened in the city’s industrial park in the summer of 1986. Back then, the company produced VCR and audio cassette tapes before transitioning to recordable compact discs.

Although TDK is no longer involved in media production, the Peachtree City facility has always produced multilayer chip capacitors, and that production continues to this very day. Read More»

The following arrests were made by Tyrone Police in July. Those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Abdirahman M. Ahmed, 26, of Knotts Pass Court, Snellville, for tag light required and driving while license suspended or revoked (felony).

John Harvey Bates, 45, of Carriage Oaks Drive, Tyrone, for purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution or sale of marijuana.

Brandon Garcia, 18, of Gaelic Way, Tyrone, for criminal interfernce with government property and criminal trespass.

PTC OK’s concessions for pool, deck at two homes

A variance to the rear setback of a home in the Fairfield subdivision was granted by the Peachtree City Council last week, allowing the homeowners to add a deck to the rear of their home.

Council also agreed, in a separate matter, to abandon a portion of an unused easement to allow the homeowners at 108 Nettlecure Court to build a in-ground swimming pool in their backyard. Read More»
