2011 Boy Scout Golden Eagle Dinner to honor Dan Cathy

Community leaders and members of the Fayette business community will gather at the 2011 Fayette County Boy Scout Golden Eagle Dinner. 

The second annual dinner is a fundraiser for the Flint River Council.  Funds raised support the local scouting program and help keep the costs of scouting down for the local boys who participate in scouting.  Last year’s dinner raised $67, 642 and organizers are hoping to top that number this year.  Read More»

Jean McLaurine Cassimus

Jean McLaurine Cassimus, 87, of Fayetteville, GA, went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2011. Jean showed godly hospitality to all who entered her home and was an active servant of those in need. She also served faithfully in Grace Evangelical Church for many years.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, William Dawson Cassimus, brother George McLaurine, and sister Eunice McLaurine Stevens.

Jean leaves behind her four children, Bill, Ann, Cathy and Randy, their spouses, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Read More»

PTC cops ID man taking photos of kids, seek warrant

UPDATED Monday, 7:15 p.m. — Peachtree City Police have identified the probable would-be photographer whose approach to some children playing near the Braelinn ballfields Saturday afternoon upset some parents.

Governor: cut Pre-K days, not hours

Will trim school year, teacher salaries

Instead of drastically cutting the length of day for Pre-K classes, Gov. Nathan Deal is proposing to shorten the Pre-K school year instead.

The school year will be shortened from 180 to 160 days, and class sizes will be increased from 20 to 22 students, which each classroom served by a teacher and a paraprofessional, under the governor’s new proposal. Read More»
