American Legion's oratorical contest winners

The American Legion Fayette County Post 105 announces the results of their 2011 Oratorical “Constitutional Speech” Contest.  Open to high school students across Fayette County for scholarship money, each contestant delivers their own 8 to 10 minute prepared oration dealing with the US Constitution. 

Next, they present a 3 to 5 minute short speech on one of four possible topics dealing with selected amendments to our Constitution.  Read More»

Casting call for extras this weekend

Lori Eastside of NYC Casting and Ann Wittenberg of New Life Casting are holding a casting call Saturday, Feb 12.

The casting call is taking place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Fayetteville / Peachtree City area.

They are looking for a variety of paid extras to portray characters during the Depression Era for the movie, “The Wettest County.” Filming begins near the end of February and we have a need for various Caucasian and African American individuals. Other ethnic and racial backgrounds are encouraged to attend for consideration with future productions. Read More»

‘Art With Heart’ raises money for The Children’s  Village

Members of Fine Arts And Crafts Entrepreneurs (FAACE) hosted their first annual “Art With Heart” show benefiting The Children’s Village at Christian City. Art enthusiasts came out to enjoy this wonderful event featuring paintings, pottery, jewelry, and fiber art created by local artisans. Over $450.00 was raised through love offerings and sales of donated pieces by artists for the boys and girls who live in the cottages at The Children’s Village. Read More»

Workshop for college bound students with disabilities, 6;30 p.m., Mar. 15

High school students with disabilities, and their parents and educators, are invited to attend a workshop, Transition to Post-Secondary Options, on March 15 at Whitewater High from 6:30-8 p.m.

The workshop is designed to help parents and educators guide young people with disabilities in making appropriate decisions about higher education options. Read More»

PTC library hosting poetry contest

To celebrate National Poetry Month (April, 2011), the Friends of the Peachtree City Library association is sponsoring a poetry contest.

The contest is open to both published and unpublished authors. Cash prizes (minimum $50) will be awarded in two categories: students (enrolled in high school or less than 18) and adults (high school graduate or older than 18).

Mr. William “Micky” Liles, Jr., 41, formerly of Fayetteville

Mr. William “Micky” Liles, Jr., 41, of Hampton and formerly of Fayetteville, died February 5, 2011.

He is survived by his children Christopher Vaughn Liles and Whitney Liles; their mother Karen Liles; parents Bill & Lynn Liles, Sr.; sister Mindy & David Oliver and sister Lisa Place; grandmother Virginia Gerken; nieces Desirae and Ronda.

A private graveside service for the family will be held Tuesday morning. The family will gather Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 to 2:00 PM to celebrate Micky’s life at the funeral home.

Tyrone cops on look-out for Sonic armed robbers

Tyrone Police are searching for three masked men who held up the Sonic Drive-in restaurant as the store was closing on Jan. 28. No one was injured in the armed robbery.

Tyrone Police Chief Brandon Perkins said the robbery occurred at closing time at approximately 11:30 p.m. Three masked men wearing hoodies and jeans entered the store from the rear of the property, he said. One of the men was carrying a handgun, Perkins said. Read More»
