PTC staff forecasts 38% tax increase in 4 years

Peachtree City’s financial staff foresees gulp-inducing property tax increases to help balance the city’s budget for the next four years — a 38 percent jump in city taxes.

Looking ahead to budgets for the next four years, city staff is figuring in a series of city property tax increases: 0.269 mill for Fiscal Year 2011, 0.6 mill for FY 2012, 1 mill for FY 2013 and 0.25 mill for FY 2014. Read More»

Mr. William “Bill” Richmond, 85, of Peachtree City, Ga., died March 5, 2010.

Bill served in the United States Air Force during World War II and later retired after 38 years with the Kroger Company.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Norma Richmond. He is survived by his daughter Denise & David Mathews of Birmingham , AL and son Dale & Janet Richmond of Warner Robins, GA ; 4 grandchildren Laura Sutton, Trevor Sutton, Kyler Richmond, and Jonathan Richmond; and his uncle Tom Robinson. A rare book chronicling the Russo – Japanese War was presented to North Georgia College and State University on Feb. 24 by Major General Jack Wheeler (Class of 1961).
The book had been the property of LTC Robert Ladd of Fayetteville, a member of American Legion Post 105, Fayette County. Colonel Ladd donated the rare volume to the Post, who in turn donated the book in memory of Colonel Herman Miller, a long term member and leader of the Post. Read More»

PTC sewer system gets clean audit

Peachtree City’s Water and Sewer Authority has received a clean bill of financial health.

The authority got a “clean audit” with no findings from the CPA firm of Mauldin and Jenkins.

The audit was presented to the authority Monday night.

Though there were no findings of any irregularities, Mauldin and Jenkins is recommending the authority purchase software to handle the accounting of capital assets. CPA David Irwin said the authority currently tracks its assets in an Excel spreadsheet which could be affected by entry errors. Read More»

Sewer considered for new Tyrone fire station

The Tyrone Town Council is considering granting a 1,000 gallon per day sewer allowance to Fayette County Public Safety for the replacement of Fire Station #3 located on Senoia Road near the old downtown area.

Fayette County Public Safety Director Allen McCullough at the council retreat last weekend said the county is ready to go forward with land acquisition for the replacement station and is looking for direction from the town on granting a 1,000 gallon per day allowance for sewer that would be needed at the new station.
