Too much work has gone into Kohl’s plan to just dismiss issue

First, I would like to say that this is my first editorial and I am only writing it because I and others were denied the right to public comment in regard to the new amendment to the CCD development on Ga. Highway 54 during the first City Council meeting of (2010) with our new council and mayor. So here it goes.

New north Fayette billboards come with a legal history

A number of Fayette County residents in the past few days have noticed the changing landscape of outdoor advertising along Ga. Highway 85 North in the area of the Fayette Pavilion. And the two large billboards being erected are generating complaints by some people. Attempts to keep out the billboards landed Fayette County in court where the battle was eventually lost. The groom-elect is a field service planner for ADT and a resident of Acworth.

The couple will be married in April, 2010, at Dogwood Church in Tyrone.

Following their honeymoon the couple will reside in Peachtree City.

The bride-to-be is a graduate of The University of Georgia with a bachelor of science, majoring in exercise and sports science, and a graduate of Clemson University with a master’s in business administration. Citizens Police Academy starts Apr. 1 in Fayetteville

The Fayetteville Police Department is set to begin another round of its Citizens Police Academy, now in its fourth year. The academy is an effort to increase community involvement with the department and offer insight into the services it provides.

Fayetteville Police spokesperson Capt. Steve Crawshaw said the purpose of the academy is to foster better communication between citizens and police through a variety of sessions that help citizens to better understand the workings and responsibilities of the department. Read More»

F'ville council helps struggling businesses

The Fayetteville City Council March 4 continued its previous decision to lessen restrictions on business banners, stake signs and A-frame signs that was set to expire March 5. The recession-driven extension will be in effect until Sept. 5.

The council’s vote would allow the display of four banner signs per year rather than the two permitted under the ordinance. Banners can be displayed one at a time and attached to the building per ordinance requirements. Read More»

So far so good for 1-cent tax for schools

The recession is causing plenty of problems with things like job creation, but it is being relatively kind to revenues for the Fayette County School System’s 1-cent sales tax. The school system has taken in nearly $15 million in fewer than 10 months of collections.

One-cent sales tax receipts through February have generated $14.565 million and are averaging $1.513 million per month for the nine full months since collections began. At that rate, the six-year collection period would generate more than $108 million of the $115 million ceiling. Read More»
