Revolutionary grave dedication for Fayette County resident set for Apr. 10

The James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution invites the public to join them as they mark the final resting spot for Patriot James Waldrop (1751-1846) , a Virginian who fought in the American Revolution, on Saturday, Apr. 0 at 11 a.m. The dedication service will be in the Bottoms Cemetery on Hewell Rd on Hwy 54 between Fayetteville and Jonesboro. Waldrop served the Americans as a private in the Continental Army and is recorded as spending time at Valley Forge. He received land in the 1821 and 1827 Georgia Land Lottery and moved his family to what is now Fayette County. Read More»

PTC Rotary supports ASP training

The Peachtree City Rotary Club, a Partner in Education, is assisting Peachtree City Elementary School’s After School Program (ASP) with its staff development initiatives.

The club is helping fund a training seminar that will be led by Tim Elmore, author of the “Habitudes” series, which focuses on growing leaders among students. In addition to ASP staff, counselors in the Children at Risk in Education (CARE) program and volunteer school mentors will also participate. Read More»

Spring has sprung! It’s time to enjoy some fun music under the stars at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater on Apr. 24. The Starr’s Mill High School bands have been working diligently all winter to prepare for an evening of fantastic entertainment. In past years, the “Night of Starrs” event has been held in smaller venues. Due to the growing popularity of the show, the event this year will be held directly under the stars at the amphitheater. For only $10, audience members will enjoy the Big Band sounds of the “Swingin Starrs”, Jazz ensembles, and the “Octave Above” Jazz choir. Read More»

Piedmont Fayette WLA Toastmaster Lynn Roberts received her Competent Communicator (CC) Award on Mar. 18 after completing her 10th speech. The Piedmont Fayette WLA Toastmaster chartered March 24, 2009. Roberts is the first in the Piedmont Fayette Toastmasters chapter to receive her CC. Toastmasters International is the world’s largest educational organization specializing in communication and leadership training.

It is time to sign up for the annual Spring Yard & Garden Show hosted by Peachtree City Parks and Recreation Department on Saturday, Apr. 24. Peachtree City Elementary raises over $1,450 with Pennies for Patients

Peachtree City Elementary students and staff collected a total of $1,458.48 during a Pennies for Patients campaign held the first two weeks of March. The money collected goes to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and supports their relentless pursuit of cures for leukemia, lymphoma and meyloma. The two classes raising the most were Krista Hiley’s 4th grade, pictured receiving a silver pennant and Betty Stricklen’s 1st grade, pictured receiving a bronze pennant. Read More»

Tickets on sale for Atlanta Symphony Decorators' Show House

Karen Duncan owner of Omega Books, Peachtree City, is once again selling the advance tickets to the Atlanta Symphony Decorators' Show House. The 40th annual Decorators' Show House and Gardens is open Apr. 17-May 9. Advance tickets are $20 and may be purchased through Friday, Apr. 16. Easter bunny visits Whitewater Creek

Whitewater Creek neighborhood had its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, Mar. 27. Over 840 eggs were hidden and the Easter Bunny stopped by for a visit. Children scattered and collected all his eggs. The Jelly Bean Jar count was over 2,000 and two children won the Basket Judging contest.
