Newnan man arrested for molesting runaway girl in PTC

A Newnan man was arrested Thursday for having sex with a juvenile female whom he had helped run away from home in another state, police said. Ryan A. Walker, 19, of Highlands Point, Newnan was charged with child molestation, interference with child custody and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to the police report.

Tyrone approves Tyrone-Palmetto Road traffic study

The Tyrone Town Council Thursday night on a 3-2 vote approved an intergovernmental agreement with Fayette County to conduct an engineering study relating to intersection and road improvement on Tyrone-Palmetto Road from Ga. Highway 74 to the Coweta County line. Funding for the $30,000 study will come from existing one-cent sales tax (SPLOST) funds. Read More»

PTC OK’s road, path project lists

Peachtree City’s wish list for regional transportation projects includes both road and cart path projects.

The projects vary from the second phase of MacDuff Parkway at the northern end to a network of paths that would connect residents on the south side of the city to the industrial park and the Baseball Soccer Complex on Ga. Highway 74 south.

The list was unanimously approved by the City Council Thursday night, and it will be added to the county’s project submittal list that will be going to the Georgia Department of Transportation for initial vetting. Read More»

SCHS grad named 'Amazing Student' at UGA

Jill Turner, a 2007 graduate of Sandy Creek, was recently named an Amazing Student at the University of Georgia. She currently serves as the executive director of UGA’s chapter of the Roosevelt Institute Campus Network and as the secretary-general of the Model United Nations Team. Mr. William “Dutch” Zeitschel, 85, of Fayetteville, GA, passed away on March 16, 2011.

Mr. Zeitschel was a very generous, loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather. He proudly served in the US Navy aboard the USS Niblack, where he was a Quartermaster 3rd class, and was awarded the Pacific Theater Award. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Leftwich & Madeline Walters Leftwich.

She is survived by her son Greg Spence of Fayetteville ; grandchildren Brady Spence, Ansley Spence and Blake Spence all of Douglasville; sister Janice Green of Newnan; former husband Jimmy D. Spence of Newnan; and Aunt Nell Gresham of Atlanta.
