Booth kids participate in Vision Walk

Warrior Team Demmitt raised $615 at the Vision Walk on Mar. 14.

On Sunday Mar. 14, the JC Booth Middle School Builders Club participated in the Vision Walk in Atlanta. Vision Walk is the national signature fundraising event of the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Since its inception in the Spring of 2006, the program has raised over $10 million to fund sight-saving research.  Booth’s “Warrior Team Demmitt”  walked the three miles to support Mrs. Demmitt, the J.C. Booth nurse, who is gradually going blind due to an eye disease.

 Warrior Team Demmitt raised $615, double the amount from last year.  The event raised a total of $101, 615.32.

Walmart delivers $15K grant for senior meals program

Fayette Senior Services has been awarded $15,000 through a Walmart Foundation grant to the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA).  The money will provide Fayette Senior Services Meals On Wheels program with a much-needed storage freezer, coolers, and computer equipment that is critical to the operations and management of the Meals On Wheels program to continue serving seniors in the community. Starr's Mill debate team qualifies for national meet

The Starr’s Mill debate team qualified six students for the National Forensics League 2010 national tournament. The students were qualified by taking first or second place in their event at the Georgia Southern Peach District Tournament in Warner Robbins Georgia on Feb. 27. Read More»

Cap & Trade meeting coming March 30

Because of the large number of requests received, the Fayette-Coweta 9/12 Patriots and the Coweta Tea Party Patriots will hold a repeat of the January Cap & Trade meeting on Tuesday, March 30 from 2-3:30 p.m. at The Gathering Place, located at 203 McIntosh Trail in Peachtree City.

Speakers will include Georgia Congressman Matt Ramsey and Michael Whiteside, President of Green Power EMC & retired CEO of Coweta-Fayette EMC.

Spokesman Jim Richter said attendees will learn about the proposed cap and trade legislation currently before Congress and how citizens will be affected. Read More»

Starr’s Mill loses a legend, Earwood to head up Our Lady of Mercy football program

In 1997, there was no football at Starr’s Mill, but Mike Earwood started building a program and with the help of dedicated coaches, players and parents, a team that was a perennial powerhouse and playoff contender was built. Input on new school superintendent sought tonight at public hearing

A public hearing will be held Monday night at 7 p.m. at Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville for residents to express their opinions on the characteristics they would like to see in the new school superintendent. Long-time superintendent John DeCotis will be retiring effective June 30.

The Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) has been hired to lead the search effort for the new superintendent and will be moderating the public hearing. Read More»

PTC may outsource building department

With building permits down drastically thanks to the economy, Peachtree City officials are considering outsourcing nearly all functions of the building department.

The arrangement would start May 1 under a proposal to be considered by the City Council Thursday night.

The changes would not result in any job losses, as Building Official Tom Carty is due to retire April 30, according to a staff memo provided to the City Council. Read More»

Mr. Ralph Van Hicks, 57, of Fayetteville

Mr. Ralph Van Hicks, 57, of Fayetteville, died on March 13, 2010 following a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.

Van was a loving husband, father, brother and son and was the “ultimate family man.” He was active for many years in youth sports leagues in the Morrow and Lake City area. He is still affectionately known to many as “Coach Van.” He and his wife Karen owned and operated Karavan Doors for 27 years. He was a member of Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church and enjoyed photography and film making in his spare time. Read More»

Venice LaVerne “Muzzie” Carroll, 72, of Fayetteville

Venice LaVerne “Muzzie” Carroll, 72, of Fayetteville, died March 11, 2010.
