PTC Police seminar to focus on Internet safety, gang issues

Parents of middle schoolers urged to attend, but open to all

Parents wanting to be up to speed on Internet safety and gang issues should put Tuesday, May 17 on their calendars.

That’s when the Peachtree City Police Department is offering such information in a community forum at J.C. Booth Middle School from 7-8:30 p.m.

Fifth grade student, Eric Flandermeyer, won the District Attorney's 5th annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Essay/Art Contest at Kedron Elementary School. Flandermeyer, a student in Mrs. Lynne Tait's class, wrote about the dangerous and selfless job that our police officers have. "We should honor the police" is the main thought of Flandermeyer's essay. Police reports for Tyrone in April

The following arrested were made by Tyrone Police during the month of April. Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Jefferson Britton Allen, 32, of Anthony Drive, Tyrone, for possession of marijuana and DUI alcohol.

Rodriguez Baltimore, 29, of Stillwater, Riverdale, for fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, driving while unlicensed and failure to yield right-of-way to school bus.

March jobless numbers fall in Fayette to lowest rate in Atlanta metro

March unemployment figures released by the Georgia Dept. of Labor (DOL) show the jobless rate in Fayette County and Peachtree City on the decline. Fayette’s jobless rate dropped one-third of a percent over the past month while the rate in Peachtree City fell nearly half a point. Read More»

Daybreak update: Fayette dodges storm

Fayette County avoided serious storm damage overnight that wrought likely tornados in neighboring Spalding County.

The Spalding storm was Fayette's closest call, potentially threatening southeast Fayette near the Brooks and Woolsey areas. Damage in Spalding was significant along Ga. Highway 92 north of Griffin, as aerial news video showed leveled buildings and damaged mobile homes.

No significant damage was reported in Fayette County to speak of, emergency officials said. Fayette crews are being dispatched to Spalding County this morning to help assist them in clearing roads, said Lt. Donnie Davis of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services. Read More»

Safely ditch old, unused medicine Saturday

Dropping off your old, unused prescription medication is as easy as driving through the parking lot of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office this Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Photo/File.

A special event to dispose of potentially dangerous prescription medication will be hosted Saturday at the Fayette County Sheriff's Office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Not only will they take the medication no questions asked, but the setup will be pain-free, as the service will be offered "drive-through" style. Participants won't need to get out of their cars; just roll down the window and hand over the unused or unwanted prescription drugs. Read More»
