Windel W. Norton, 66, of Fayetteville

After a long and brave battle against Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and lung cancer, Windel W. Norton, 66, passed away at his residence on March 12, 2010 with his wife, daughter, and youngest brother by his side.

Born Nov. 21, 1943, in Pelham, Ga., to the late Curtis and Ruth Norton, Windel joined the United States Army in 1962. He was stationed in Augsburg, Germany where he met his wife, Monika. Judith Sundloff

After a heroic three-year battle with cancer, Judith J. Sundloff mercifully passed away on March 13, 2010. Her treasure of loving family surrounded her as she succumbed to Brain Cancer.

Judy was the second of five children born in September 1960 to John and Margeret Jakuback in New Rochelle, New York. She attended New Rochelle High School, Westechester College, and moved to Central Florida in 1980. She attended The Florida Institute of Technology and met her husband, Fred Sundloff, in 1986. Two men sought in Rite-Aid robbery

Two men are being sought in the Sunday night robbery of the Rite-Aid pharmacy on South Glynn Street in Fayetteville.

Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw said two black men entered the store at 9:46 p.m., grabbed the manager and demanded money. The men were described as 5’6”-5’8” and 5’4”-5’6” in height, said Crawshaw. The men wore dark blue or black pants and hoodies and wore ski masks, Crawshaw said.

Information on the location of the money and the amount taken was not available, Crawshaw said. Read More»

Residents and employees have their say on superintendent characteristics

The public input session to receive the opinions of the community on the characteristics and qualifications residents deem important in the selection of a school superintendent drew comments from 12 of the approximately 110 people who turned out Monday night at Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville.

The public hearing was moderated by representatives from the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA), the organization hired last week to lead the process that will replace outgoing superintendent John DeCotis. Read More»

Tea party meeting and bus trip later today

The South Atlanta Tea Party Patriots will be holding a meeting tonight, March 15, featuring gubernatorial candidate Ray McBerry who will be speaking on States’ Rights. The meeting will be held at 800 Commerce Drive in Peachtree City at 7 p.m.

On another issue, the organization is issuing a last call for a bus trip from Atlanta to Washington, D.C. At last count there were 12 seat available. The bus will leave from Atlanta at 7 p.m. and arrive in Washington Tuesday morning for the “Say NO to Obamacare” rally at the Capitol. Read More»

Peeples Elementary School fourth-grade enrichment students took a field trip to the Fayette County Crime Lab recently. The students were impressed to learn how local CSI officers use fingerprinting and shoe-printing, get help from drug- and bomb-sniffing dogs, and store evidence and weapons.
