PTC woman opposes pay raise for mayor

One Peachtree City resident argued Thursday night against a potential raise for Mayor Don Haddix.

Speaking during the public comment portion of the city council meeting, Caren Russell said it didn’t make sense given the state of the city’s economy.

PTC finances get green light from auditor

Peachtree City’s latest financial audit yielded a fully clean opinion from the accounting firm of Moore and Cubbedge.

Firm partner Tammy Galvis presented a breakdown of the city’s audit to the city council at its meeting Thursday night.

Among other data, Galvis showed a graph how the city’s cash reserve fund has dipped from $10.6 million in 2007 to $10.1 million in 2008 and then $9.5 million in 2009.

PTC passes on fire sprinkler mandate for new homes

A proposal to require fire sprinkler systems to be installed in all new single family homes in Peachtree City failed on a 4-1 vote at Thursday night’s City Council meeting.

Fire Chief Ed Eiswerth gave an impassioned plea urging approval of the ordinance, citing recent construction techniques that have caused quicker building collapses when they are exposed to fire. He also noted that sprinklers dramatically increase a person’s chances of surviving a fire. Read More»

The setting March 27 could not have been more perfect for the Bear Creek Hounds Point-to-Point Races held at Bear Creek Farm south of Moreland. A total of 83 horses ran in the multiple races held on the rolling terrain.

A centuries-old tradition came alive amid the rolling hills of Bear Creek Farm near Moreland recently. And in the second running of the Bear Creek Hounds Point-to-Point Races it is likely that a new tradition had emerged.
