The Rev. Marvin Curtis Taylor of Fayetteville, Ga.

The Rev. Marvin Curtis Taylor of Fayetteville, passed away on April 6, 2010 at the age of 83.

Marvin was a veteran of WWII, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Navy Chief for twenty years prior to his retirement. After following the call to defend his country, he followed a greater calling to the ministry, serving as pastor of Churches in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and West Germany. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Marvin and his wife Nora met on a blind date in December of 1949, and were married eleven days later. Their marriage lasted sixty years. Read More»

James B. Peterson, Fayetteville, Ga., awarded Air Force ROTC scholarship

James B. Peterson of Fayetteville, Ga., has been awarded an Air Force ROTC scholarship to attend a host college or university.

He is the son of James R. and Nora D. Peterson of Bridgestone Cove, Fayetteville, Ga.

His grandfather, Earl Peterson, resides on Arncliff Drive, Shreveport, La.

Army Pvt. James K. Hall graduates basic training

Army Pvt. James K. Hall has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.

This time last year a small handful of people in Coweta and Fayette counties decided to mirror similar efforts planned across America by protesting their dissatisfaction with the federal government at Tea Party rallies on Apr. 15. Hundreds attended the local rallies. Now with local mailing lists totaling a few thousand, the South Atlanta Tea Party Patriots, the Coweta Tea Party and the Fayette/Coweta 9.12 Patriots will be holding rallies again this year on Apr. 15 in Peachtree City and Newnan. Qualifying starts April 26 for local BOE, county seats

The light blue district in north Fayette County is the post 5 district, currently held by Lee Wright. The light yellow district in Fayetteville and extending eastward is the post 4 district currently held by Bob Todd.
