Developer wants sewer access; approval recommended with buffer, enhancements

A proposal to annex four parcels on 7.36 acres along Ga. Highway 54 East into Peachtree City will be considered by the City Council Thursday night.

The owner of the Peachtree Professional Center has asked for the annexation to allow hookup to the city’s sewer system. The hookup is not necessary but would be nice to have and it would allow for more of the site to be used for parking, according to Chuck Ogletree, a representative of owner Foot Pain, LLC. Get rid of deputies or get rid of a helicopter: That was the choice he had to make, according to Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb.

“It came down to programs or people. And we chose people,” Babb said.

The elimination by Babb of the Hawk I helicopter as a cost-saving measure in his 2013-2014 proposed budget reflects a fundamental change in a program used to buy and operate the aurcraft.

Babb cited the high cost of operating the helicopter in the face of shrinking federal asset seizure funds used to fund that operation. Read More»

Stinky water case: Misdiagnoses and delayed responses

Technicians watch Monday afternoon as pressurized blasts of water are used to remove sludge that has been caked on the bottom of a water lagoon at the Crosstown Water Treatment Plant in Peachtree City. The sludge, which is being hauled for off-site disposal, consists of solids that deposited at the bottom of the lagoon after they were washed away from the plant. Part of the smelly water was blamed on the recycling of this water back into the plant’s treatment process. Photo/John Munford.

Fayette’s stinky water problems appear to have mostly dissipated.

Water System Director Tony Parrott said Tuesday that his office has received only one complaint about water since Sunday, and that caller appeared to have a situation unrelated to the problem that distributed millions of gallons of bad smelling, and bad tasting, water to Fayette homes and businesses for a period of more than three weeks.
