Tyrone police chief adds role after council boots its town manager

It was nearly two years ago that Richard Newbern was hired as Tyrone’s Town Manager. Things changed on Nov. 1 when his contract was not renewed. Police Chief Brandon Perkins was appointed to serve in that capacity until the position is filled.

Mayor Don Rehwaldt said the Town Council at an Oct. 17 called meeting voted 4-0 not to renew Newbern’s contract. Rehwaldt in commenting on the council’s action said the evolving priorities in Tyrone led to the decision not to renew the contract.

The newly opened Schlotzsky’s Deli in Peachtree City was offering quite a special deal to their first 50 customers. The first 50 people to purchase a six pack of Cinnabon received free Cinnabon for a year or sandwich, chips and drink for a year.The deal was enough to get some people to camp out at the store starting the night before. PTC Optimist Club hosts successful Halloween events for kids

The Peachtree City Fire Department hosted its annual haunted house for children 10 years old and older and adults. The Peachtree City Optimist Club hosted “The House of Clues” for children 3 years to 10 years old. The House of Clue was a non-scary event based on the Clue Mystery Game.

The Optimist club also provided the concession stand with hot dogs, chips, soft drinks, hot chocolate and homemade hot apple cider. Both events were a great success and they appreciated the public’s support of both organizations. Read More»

Patriots, Vikings and War Eagles headed to playoffs

Sandy Creek has won 39 games in a row and won their fourth straight region title tonight, while Northgate blew out Alcovy and Landmark Christian picked up a win over Wesleyan in a region 5-A play-in game.

In other games, Fayette County, Starr's Mill and Our Lady of Mercy won, while Whitewater and McIntosh lost.

SCHS shows skills at state fair

SkillsUSA students at Sandy Creek High proved once again that they are champions, bringing home four top 10 wins from the Champions Rally held at the Georgia National Fair in Perry.

The school’s SkillsUSA chapter won first place in “Chapter T-shirt Design” for the second consecutive year, fifth place in “Chapter Recruitment Display,” eighth place in “Chapter Recruitment Poster Design,” and sixth place in “Overall Chapter Rankings.” Read More»

PTC mail carrier arrested for gift card theft

A Peachtree City mail carrier has been charged with stealing gift cards that were supposed to be delivered to addresses along his route, police said.

John Breedlove, 42, of Baltic Drive, Sharpsburg, was arrested today on eight counts of misdemeanor theft by taking and one count of failure to keep medicine in its original container, police said.

The investigation began when Breedlove’s personal vehicle caught fire in the parking lot of the Peachtree City Post Office Aug. 8, police said.

An arson investigation is also being conducted in relation to the fire, police said. Read More»

PTC bus stop suspect nabbed

A Senoia man was arrested today on several charges stemming from the investigation of a suspicious man interacting with students at several Peachtree City school bus stops, police said. Damien Lee Yerger, 24, of Autumn Creek Drive, Senoia was charged with two felony counts of enticing a child for indecent purposes and three misdemeanor counts of loitering/prowling, police said. 3 arrested in 2nd Walmart debit fraud attempt

Police have arrested three Nigerian residents for attempting to fraudulently withdraw large sums of money using prepaid debit cards at the Peachtree City Walmart.

This is the second time that such a scam has been detected at the Walmart in eight days. The suspects were arrested Oct. 28 after Walmart loss prevention officers determined the transaction was fraudulent, police said.

Sheriff: Suspect sold 26 stolen cars for crushing

An Atlanta man has been arrested for selling 26 stolen vehicles to two local auto parts stores, sheriff’s investigators said. Christopher Davis, 53, of Atlanta would sell the vehicles, which were then crushed to recover as recyclable metals, officials said. Read More»
