Mid-Fayette rezoning of 64 acres approved quietly

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners dealt with two rezoning requests at its Dec. 11 meeting with no public comment, not even from the applicants.

A petition from Davis, LLC and agent Rick Halbert for rezoning of 63.89 acres on Davis Road was unanimously approved. The property had previously been split into A-R and R-40 sections, and the new zoning will place the entire tract under the R-40 designation. Read More»

The Fayetteville Police Department on Dec. 11 held its 11th annual “Christmas with the Police” program.

This year, the department was able to provide presents for nine children in four families as well as dinner and gift certificates for each family. Fayetteville police officers and detectives shopped for each child based on wish lists they had provided. The department also held a Christmas party for the families, said Det. Mike Whitlow. Appeals court judges question whether district voting should be decided by a judge at a bench trial

Federal appeals court judges last week questioned whether the whole district voting lawsuit filed by the NAACP against Fayette County ought to be heard by a judge at a bench trial.

The appeal of a federal court decision mandating district voting in Fayette County was heard Dec. 10 at the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta. There is no established time frame for a decision on the appeal to be rendered. Read More»
