These Whitewater High School students represented Fayette County at Valdosta State University for the 2014 Governor’s Honors Program June 22-July 19. The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) is a four-week, summer residential program designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year. The Whitewater Wildcats may have moved down to the AAAA classification for the 2014 season, but they showed that they can still play with AAAAA squads.

The Wildcats jumped out to a big early lead on the road against county rival Starr’s Mill and held on for a 43-21 victory in the season opener for both teams.

The game began with an exchange of punts, but Whitewater got the first break of the game by recovering a fumble inside the Starr’s Mill 30. Shortly thereafter, Christian Wafford scored on a 17-yard run to give the Wildcats the early lead midway through the first quarter. Read More»

Fayette County falls to Drew in Thursday night action

It was Thursday night football in Clayton County this week, and the Fayette County Tigers traveled to Riverdale to face Drew in a high-scoring contest where the home team prevailed 44-27.

After a scoreless first quarter, Drew got on the board first with an interception return for a touchdown. The Tigers stormed back, however, as Daveion Nash ran for a score and threw a touchdown pass to Desmond Fletcher to give Fayette County a 14-7 lead.

Drew took a one-point lead into the locker room at halftime thanks to a touchdown and a two-point conversion. Read More»

Free screening of 'Rio 2' is Saturday night

Bring the family and join everyone for a freeoutdoor movie, “Rio 2”on a giant 36-foot screen at Drake Field, just to the left of the Peachtree City Library.

The movie is open to the public and begins at dark. Arrive early to enjoy the pre-show music and activities.

Charter Bank to close PTC office

It has been more than five years since West Point-based Charter Bank opened an office in Fayette County. But that office located in Peachtree City is set to close in late September.

Regional president Ashley Schubert in a recent letter to customers said Charter has determined that maintaining a retail branch office in Peachtree City is not economically feasible, adding that Charter will exit the Fayette County market on Sept. 26. Read More»

The Fayette CARE Clinic would like to thank the Lions Club of Peachtree City for donating a Binocular Indirect Ophthalmoscope. The Fayette CARE Clinic provides the uninsured residents of Fayette County with healthcare services such as medical, dental, vision, chiropractic care, dermatology, cardiology, gynecology, education and mental health services. With the help of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation and Dr. Nancy Barr, the Fayette CARE Clinic is able to offer approximately 30 patients a month with vision services. Read More»
